I am just going thru my new to me 08 fz6 and getting it ready for storage for winter, my garage isn't heated so I always take out my batteries and bring them inside so they don't freeze outside.

I got the battery out of the fz and found this weird little lithium ion battery with foam cushions on the bottom to make it the same height as the normal battery.

Are these used often in the fz community? This is my 4th bike and the first that came with a weird (to me) lithium battery. It has the specs of the battery on the side but I cannot find a date code on it to know how old it is.

I googled the model and it came up, should I replace this next spring or should it be okay?

Its very light and smaller than what could fit but I guess as long as the CCA is the same as the stock battery it might be fine, but I'm sure you could fit a bigger lithium and maybe the dealer I bought this from just had it laying around and slapped it in to get it going before selling. Really wish it had some kind of date code, that would make this decision much easier if it was over 5 years old I would just buy one

Lithium batteries are typically smaller (and much lighter) than their conventional counterparts. If the battery starts the bike…then it’s a good match to the bike. Good decision to remove the battery for the winter as lithium batteries don’t like extreme cold. Once a lithium battery drops below ~60-70% charge they can not recover. The good news is that at room temperature conditions a lithium battery will only lose about 1% charge per month whereas a conventional battery will lose about 1% per week.
