OK, New rant! Last night i finally got round to replacing the hydraulic brake light sensor on the black bike....the old one got crushed when i was removing the sub frame during modifications! because it was mounted directly underneath the subframe, on top of the rear brake master cylinder banjo connector...and there was NO clearance between the WR450 Hydraulic brake light switch, i had to use, because the "race only" valtermoto rearsets i have on the bike, came with no rear brake light sensor...
So my rant starts here! Last time i had the bike shop fit the brake light sensor for me...in fact, i let the mechanic from the bike shop come up with a solution to the problem of not having a rear brake light sensor...and the end result worked, but the installation left the brake light sensor jammed up against the rear sub frame..in fact it was a bit squashed even...
I have never quite been happy with this, but put up with it, because it worked, and looked ok.
But after i broke the thing taking off the sub-frame, i decided that this time i decided i would fit it, and see whether i could do it better, and end up with a much more durable, less compromised position for the sensor...
So i went and bought another ADR approved WR450 hydraulic brake light sensor, and last night set about fitting said sensor...
I take the seat & tank off, to trace the wiring from the broken brake light sensor, that was still attached to the bike...when i get to the point where the sensor's wiring connects to the bike, i am confronted with a bunch of black insulation tape...remove it, and i find a pretty shoddy witing job...it is obvious straight away that the connections for the WR450 brake light sensor, dont match up with the FZ6 connectors!! So the bike shop has just cut the wires and twisted them together, and taped it up...horrified! so first job was to put a decent set of new connectors on both the brake light sensor wiring, and the wiring at the bike end of the connection...some shrink wrap to tidy it all up, and things are "serviceable" at least!!!
Then i get to the other end, where the rear brake master cylinder attaches to the rear set...it is obvious to fit the brake light sensor, without it getting crushed again by the sub frame that all i need to do is put some spacers in the mounts, and at the brake pedal pivot, and move the master cylinder back 5mm, which gives the brake light sensor clearance behind the sub frame...so simple...brake works just as well, everything is still straight, and once again, everything is "serviceable"...
My problem is, that if i can work that out....a shed "hack" who knows very little about anything mechanical, then why could'nt a mechanic, who was employed as a workshop manager, work it out!!! Probably because he was too lazy...
Worst thing is, i got charged $180 in labour for the "install" last time...no problem with that, except that for $180, i expect more for my money...like a decent set of connectors on the wiring, and a better "solution" to a simple problem...
Should also be mad with myself, cause i should of paid more attention the first time, and pointed out the solution myself...
Just another story about crap workmanship from a stealership! If your gonna charge $100+ an hour for labour...get it right!!!!
