Is there enough room to install a Keensert, with the frame in the way, being your drilling the damaged area slightly larger?

Might end up drilling & tapping through the frame also but that's what larger washer are for...lol The 2nd best thing to do is to pull the engine out... but I'll settle with doing it in place personally. The best option in this case was not to strip the thread at first place... but $hit happen.

At the end of the day, there's more than one way to fix it... it's just that there some ways that are better than others. Just need to decide between a quick fix and a proper fix.

I didn't say your way wouldn't work. I'm saying that the thread needs to be repaired properly with some form of thread insert.

Info for future slider installers.....

I had recently returned from a ride and although the engine was not hot to the touch it was still warm.

I had originally installed the left side slider, dry, and then caught my mistake and following the manufacturers specs installed the right side with a drop of oil. I then backed up & removed the left side, applied oil and reinstalled.

Both sides were torqued to the directed specs of 35 ft lbs.

Having checked the service manual earlier and found the torque to be listed as 40 ft lbs, I called OES to question the difference. I was told that OES always uses the OEM torque values for their sliders as well. He didn't know why there would be a disparity between the two but I could feel free to bump up the torque another 5 lbs if I was so inclined.

I was so inclined and as soon as I put the torque wrench on the left side and started to pull.........POP!!!!!

I appreciate all the help, & as I actually have more thread left over than what was originally securing the frame to the engine in the first place, I intend to go with threading through a longer bolt and using a nut for insurance.

**UPDATE**

I know it's been a little while but here's the latest.

I've been talking to a guy from OES and he has been very helpful, and it seems, to me anyway, that this problem sort of blindsided them. He did say that the OES individual responsible for the installation procedures, proper fitment, & workup of included materials (bolts) of these sliders to the FZ6 is no longer receiving an employment check from OES. He didn't indicate if there were other systems this guy worked on or why he was let go and I guess it doesn't matter here, but I did get the vibe that they were going to have to go back and review any work done by him. (This is totally my observation, arrived at solely by the conversation we had and the tone/inflections of his voice. It sounded like the aforementioned individual better not ever run into this guy in a dark alley somewhere).

Anyway......I gave him all the applicable measurements: stock bolt length, length of spacer area within frame spar, length of threaded area in engine case receiving the bolt threads, amount of contact with threads that the stock bolt recieves, amount of contact with the threads that the current supplied bolt recieves, confirmed the length of bolt sent out by OES, and recommended a length that I thought would be acceptable.

He did remember getting a call previously from JoeSTL, for the same problem and assured me they would acquire another FZ6 post haste and rectify the problem.

They are good quality sliders, look nice, and the company is quick to listen to you and try to resolve problems, and that's kind of hard to find these days. I think its a case of a good company getting inadvertently caught in a bad situation.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy OES sliders again, however, if you are considering buying a set for your FZ6 I would call and confirm that the problem has indeed been worked and rectified before ordering. I will continue to stay in contact with OES and will post whenever I hear anything.
