Steel Sprocket vs Aluminum?

Before I pull the trigger, I would like to hear the pro's and con's vs the two types of sprockets.

So far, I'm just assuming that the Steel Sprocket will out last the aluminum, but by how much? I think the weight difference will be insignificant.

from what I have heard, the alums dont last that long at all (6-8k miles). Although you have miraculous long life on those tires so who knows?

I got about 8,000 miles from a Vortex aluminum sprocket. I got over 30,000 miles on a factory sprocket. For street riding, the aluminum isn't worth the weight savings.

Supersprox are good rear sprockets because they have steel teeth, but aluminum carriers so you get the best of both worlds.

That's the entire argument. Steel will last MUCH longer, and the weight difference is less than 1/4 gallon of fuel.

Go with steel front/rear and a quality chain. Under $200.

+1 I agree. For the type of riding you do, the advantage will be minimal so go with the steel. There are 'upgraded' steel ones too if you really want something different.
