To me, unlike a cage where they teach defensive driving skills, riding a bike requires the rider to have both offensive and defensive skills. A good combination of both can save your proverbial hide. I also agree with the suggestion that awareness is a fundamental necessity when riding regardless of where you ride. Simply stated, the rider has got to know what's around them which may lead to escape routes. All good stuff here folks....
