Keep in mind I'm talking from the vantage point of larger displacement engines, I'm a V8 5.7 liter guy.

Occasional runs around redline are not going to effect your oil quality. But if you find yourself around red line all the time, down shifting hard and using engine breaking often you will want to use better grade oils and increase the frequency to 2500/3000 miles. This isn't really do to oil break down as much as blow by. At higher RPMs and during engine breaking you see a lot more blow by of exhaust gasses in and oil out on the V8 engines. At the very least make it a habit of checking your oil levels every time you fill your tank. My GTO will use @ 1/4 quart (out of 6) of oil if I drive her 'normally' for me. If I have a chance to get to a track and/or get up north to a couple of my favorite twisties I have used as much as 1/2 to 1 quart between changes.

This is real world exp from a V8 but I wouldn't be surprised to see the same on a smaller i4. I don't' beat the FZ that hard and put less than 1000 miles a month on her. I don't have enough history to say how she reacts.

I love 8K RPM on highway and rarely use 6th gear (except maybe to save gas).

I'm always gentle on the bike (or any car) until it's warmed up.

I change the oil & filter about every 3500 - 4000km's, depending on what sort of riding i have been doing...and i use good quality fully synthetic oil..probably slight overkill, but as i said, my motor feels, and sounds great after 35000km's of abuse...a lot of the time, 2 up in sports riding mode.

Similar to you, i like to sit near the bikes peak power, torque area which is between 6500rpm's up on my bike at least...gearing and custom dyno map...and rarely use top gear.

And yes, it goes without saying, make sure everything is nice and warmed up, before you wring the neck of the bike in anyway.

I rev it up to 4-6RPM then 2nd. But i usually rev 2nd gear up to 10K or so. And yes I love the dragon roar out of my Two Bros....weeee....weee...weee...:BLAA:

Taking first up to the top will not harm things if your a fast shifter. When winding it out in first do not doddle on the shift into second. If your are not shifting into second because you are slowing down don't worry about it.

Keep your oil changed and your chain lubed the bike won't mind 14K one bit.
