SO I ran out of gas on the way to the gas station on Monday night...pushed for about 1/2 a mile...wearing all my gear...Nobody stopped to help and harley riders just whisked past.

all in all, at least now I know just how far I can go on reserve!

Sorry to hear that, and pushing is VERY hard. I once talked my Dad into riding his DT400 around the lake- the off road way. 2 miles in the spark plug blew out of the head & into the water! I pushed 5+ miles home, only to see him laugh and confess that he would have left it in the bushes and went back with a truck! Well, it's exercise anyway, right?

Yup. I used to run Premium, and noticed no difference. Manual says regular, so I put in regular. No difference. If I was going to run a trackday, premium, yes, but otherwise...meh.

How far?

I can get 40 miles...maybe more depending on the riding i've done, but in the city, 40 seems my average mpg and I got 37 on F-trip. Should have been 40 but my front tire was also 5psi low :ban:

It is a really sick feeling when you run out of gas. When it happened to me, I luckly found a guy (a perfect stranger...but a rider), who "loaned" me a quart of gas. I think I would park and walk before I would push.

That sucks! I remember my Suzuki 1100 ran out of gas and as I was pushing it some dumbass pulled up and yells, "Shoulda bought a Harley!!" Whatever...

I agree... i notice no difference if i put "good" gas in. I just get less miles out of my tank...

Hello,

I drove my 2005 and my 2007 gas tank empty each one time to check how much fuel gets into an empty tank.
For both FZ6's this was 19 liters. But to get 19 liters in you had to fill the fuel a little bit over the underside of the gas tank opening.

My 2005' FZ6 switched to reserve on average 15,2L.
My 2007' FZ6 switched to reserve on average 14,8L.

Which means you have 3,8 / 4,2L reserve fuel. I think 4L is a good average.
When you drive in "cruising" mode which has something about 5,5L/100km you can still drive 72km on reserve.

Some Conversions: (thx @ google)
Gas tank fits: 19 Liter = 5,01926899 Gallonen
Average. Reserve: 4 Liter = 1,05668821 Gallonen
Average cruising mode: 5,5 L/100km = 42,7662879 miles per gallon
Average range on reserve: 72 kilometers = 44.7387258 miles

This facts naturally depend on gas usage, how full you fill your gas tank and the exact switching-to-reserve-point of your FZ6.

hehe I too had my fair share of pushing for around 1km to get a taste of how far my bike can go till dry...

but its all worth the sweat cause now I have the "confidence" on how far my bike can travel base on my own riding pattern.

anyway I just came out from the army so i've still got the energy to push the bike. wont bother to try it again also..once bitten twice shy.

Last year I had my 93 Vulcan and went riding with a friend. I told him I needed gas before I left but he figured I had enough to make it to our destination for lunch. I ran out of gas in the middle of nowhere (turns out the lever was already on reserve - oops). My friend and his passenger had to ride over 30 miles to the nearest town to get some gas. They were gone for over an hour - about 15 minutes into it I realized that if I turned around on the seat and put my head on the tank bag and my feet on the seat the bike was nice and comfy - enjoyed a nice little nap in the warmth and sunshine!

Goes to show you how ignorant he was... most likely thought you were broke down and not out of gas. Not too unusual for them, being that when they are walking - they ARE broke down.

To those of you who have run out of gas on a Fizzer...and just so I know the signs...when you start to run out of fuel, does the bike just cut out the once and you coast along to a stop, or does it cough and splutter for a few miles before conking out?

Well if it was a Harley ...it would have been impossible to push as they r heavy like elephants...look at one advantage of buying a "non" Harley!...I would have showed my middle finger to his face...the moment he said Harley..bah:Flip:

never ran out of gas... is it a dangerous thing? as in, does the bike just die and you have to grab the clutch real quick... or what? seems that it would jsut die and then you would be jolted....
