One of my most dangerous motorcycling experiences ever involved running out of gas on an interstate! This was on my first bike (Buell Blast) that had no gas gauge
ban
so you never really knew where you were on gas. It started spluttering. Luckily, I was in the second to right lane already, there was no one to the right of me, so I could get into the breakdown lane before I stopped. I still have nightmares thinking of running out of gas in a middle lane of an interstate and not being able to move off the road.
Later, I practiced switching to the reserve tank while on the go, and it was possible to do it while riding, but not without practicing it first.
