the little rubbery nib that sticks out is, I believe, just part
of the cover, the actual switch should still be located correctly
inside there...can you see it?...when my son was a young lad
he picked all the little rubberized buttons off my GPS :spank:
and I was able to repair it with a little dab of silicone that was
left to sit for 24hrs and dry before touching....worth a shot

If the membrane is still in tact you should be able to activate the button by pushing on the membrane, even without the rubber. If the membrane is broken, you can sometimes cut a button off of a cheap calculator membrane to make it work

Waniek, did you manage to find a solution? I have the exact same problem - The rubber top of the button fell off, everything works but I have to use a toothpick or something to push the button.
I'd rather not improvise and try to replace the part with the same one, but so far I found nothing.

I would think you could find a small rubber or hard plastic circular pad at HD, Lowes, Wally World, Radio Shack, etc which 4 are usually used to stick to the bottom of a small counter top device (regular phone base, electric can opener, coffee maker, etc).

As small as the button is, a small device is likely your best bet when hunting about in the house...

The lap top I'm on right now has 4 oblong pads (two pads I had to make up out of rubber as the old ones fell apart and aren't available from DELL...).

Or cut one out of some rubber (thick inner tube) and silicone to the console.

I suspect your going to have to improvise or start looking for a replacement console. If done neatly, IMHO, it'll look fine....

Inbound on the exposed part, is it a mechanical push button switch or is it the printed circuit boards contacts 2 contacts which require an elastomer "membrane" to conduct between them?

The repair would be very different for the two.
