oil filter ok for 7000 miles?

i usually change oil with rotella t syn every 3500 miles with new filter. seems like a waste so i just did a change but kept the old filter. everything should be fine i assume? thanks.

btw my givi engine guard blocks the drain nut but it's not that bad, i just loosened some bolts and pulled out the guard an inch out so i can wrench the drain nut. can't use a torque wrench but hand torque should be fine.

All of the service manuals at work recommend a service/filter change every 10,000 kms and a basic oil change (no filter change) every 5,000 kms.
However, I'm of the opinion that if your going to change the oil, ya may as well change the filter too, it's not really that much more dollar wise.
I always give my customers the option. Most will get a new filter.

I agree with you. Though many say a filter is good for much longer, that the more it filters the more efficient it gets, etc....and they may be right, but I know that I read once that the paper starts to decompose after awhile, (and that could lead to major problems)! I'll always do the oil and filter together. JMO

While it might be "ok" for 7k miles..A supertech walmart filter only costs like $4 and gets great marks in all the oil filter reviews. I'd rather spend $4 and not worry about it.

True, it is an expensive initial investment but in the long run "it" pays for itself and some more. Another benefit is that it filters better due to unrestricted oil flow unlike many if not all paper (not certain about K&N) filters that has limitations. I don't have this on my bike............yet................ Maybe in the future if I decide to upgrade my mode of transportation. But in regards to the "true" value of this reusable filter, I would defer this to our resident engineers on this forum.

very nice, does anyone know if the fz6 filter can fit anyone other yamaha bikes? if i do get it when i change bikes like the fz1 or r6 or r1 i can still use it.

If you're asking about the reusable filter fitment with the FZ1, I'm not certain. I check out the link I posted to see if the filter for the FZ6 matches the FZ1, unfortunately they are "out" of stock for the time being.

This filter also has a magnet to it, allowing for you to catch small metal particle hopefully minimizing or preventing further engine damage.
Just like the filter itself, the use of magnets on oil filter is debatable. Many claim it can cause more damage if said small particles (now clump together) breaks off the magnet and recirculates into the engine. While on the other hand people who have used magnets on their oil filters would attest they work wonders for their vehicles. Again it's debatable, something for our forum engineers to talk about.

Sorry, I attached the same link with the prior post. I made the necessary corrections. The K&P billet reusable filter for the FZ6 is the same for the FZ1 (S1 model), if you're going that route. This is definitely more expensive than the PC Racing Flo filter from motorcyclesuperstore.com

It says that it filters at 35 microns which is not as good as the higher quality paper filters like the PureOne and AMSoil with 20 and 15 micron respectively. Also, it mentions these being used in the aerospace industry which is misleading. I've never seen a reusable filter for fuel, oil, or hydraulics on an aircraft. In the commercial industry, filters are not usually changed until a bypass button pops. I am dubious of their claims, but anything is possible.

The owners manual call for oil changes at 4K miles. With using a full syn why cheap out on not replacing the filter? Save $ by waiting until 5k miles and change both.
It seems a bigger waste to change oil before needed.

Awakening a dead thread -- apologies. Just wanted to share my impression of oil service after having adjusted my valve clearance. I never noticed on parts fiche before that there are no camshaft bearings for these engines. If the camshaft journal clearance is too large, and the camshaft journal diameter is in spec, the manual suggests replacing the camshaft caps and engine head. That makes me want a healthy stock of anti-wear additives and clean oil. Rotella and filter every 4-5k miles for me.

I change my filter every 500 miles, and the oil every 250 miles just to make sure...

More seriously, I change my filter every other oil change simply because there is no need to do it every time.
I also change my oil every 4-5000 miles and don't worry about it if it ends up being 6000 miles...

Even after 6000 miles the oil still looks perfectly fine...

3000 mile oil + filter changes is a marketing driven waste of money/time imho.
