Hey there folks,

Could someone furnish me with whatever oil filters are good for this bike,
and their numbers? Anyone NOT a fan of Fram here? I've used them almost
all the time and never had a problem, but some claim to hate them for their
crappiness. Supertechs & NAPA are supposed to be good. I think NAPA ones
are made by Wix.
I plan on using Rotella T synthetic, even though it's 5w-40. That oil has
made shifting buttery smooth in every bike I've used it in.

Also, in reading some of the oil & break-in threads, on this bike it may be
a good idea to NOT wait until 600 miles for the first change, yes?:D

I use K&N. The FZ lists 2 different part numbers, not sure why or what he difference is, but I've used both w/o any probs. The hex on the end is super!!!

I think I can speak for many of us and we use the ugly yellow 3.25in

Purolator Pure One PL14610

It used to be the same pretty blue as the faster Blue FZ's but Purolator thought musturd (spelling intentional) looked better :spank:

I have one blue one left, maybe they'll change back before I run out!

+1 for PL14610 (or PL14612)
read Motorcycle Oil Filters & Air Filters
if you have the time and would like a good description of oil filters and what makes some better than others. I suppose you could say that an oil filter will not add or subtract from the performance of the bike (other than perhaps restricting oil flow). However a better one will add longevity to the engine.

I have seen threads with people changing the oil around 200 miles, and I believe one guy at like 60. The thinking is, the majority of the breaking in is done by 200, so it should be changed then (or perhaps before depending on who you ask) instead of waiting until 600 and letting that crap float in the oil. I changed mine at 600. There was quite a bit of metal particles in the filter, and a small amount in the oil, nothing drastic.

One of them has some sort of filter bypass of the filter gets clogged, I really hope that i never run my oil long enough to need the filter to bypass itself, so i don't worry about which one to use.

Thank you for posting this thread, i have to remember to order myself a new K&N oil filter...

Once I saw the baby S**t yellow filter, I hit every store and bought the last remaining blue ones. I have five blue pl14612 and four blue pl14610 filters. I am hoping this will last until Purolator changes their mind on colors! If not I am set on filters for close to a decade!

What, seriously, the K&N filter has a nut on the end of an actual wrench or
ratchet? That's too cool! I gotta look into those.
