I went to Germany on business a couple of weeks ago and took the opportunity to visit Munich... that city is AWESOME!! Very expensive (it's the German Silicon Valley, with BMW headquarters on top of it), but great because it's a big city that has the feel of a small town... The whole downtown is pedestrian and looks beautiful and super clean... a lot of the city was destroyed during WWII, so bits and pieces of the city are still old, but most of it is new or has been rebuilt...

As most of you know, beer is a religion in Bavaria (Germany's South East region), and it's pretty crazy to see how far they take it... (and pretty awesome to taste all of them lol):

Some pics:

Fantastic pics.

I've been to Germany a couple of times. Love the place - everyone drove BMW's and Mercs. Loved the food and beer too....

And the best for the end, our lunch break in one of the MANY breweries in the city:

What's great is that you often will sit at the same table as other ppl you don't know... so you meet ppl all the time in Munich... it's part of the feel...

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm (yes I know we ordered the kid's size beers... but we had a few of them haha)

Some other World famous breweries: (all these are the original breweries... and only half a dozen of them are authorized to participate in the Munich October Fest...):

Real "Men" there have their unique key to their traditional ceramic beer mug:

I see you made it to the Hofbrauhaus. I got pretty wasted in there...LOL...

I love Germany, great food, great people, and got to love that Autobahn.

Yeah, it's a country where the taxis are all Mercedes. I can recall being in a taxi one time going to the Munich Airport, had a 60 year old lady as our driver, just hammering down the highway, had to be going at least 100 mph....LOL..

The BMW museum is pretty cool, go check it out if you have a chance. I've down several gigs at the Olympic Stadium nearby.

Very cool David, certainly one of the places I hope to visit sooner than later. So much history, especially WWII, which is my favorite era of history to learn about. I hear the BMW museum is a must while there.

Gotta love Germany! You need to visit Munich in September.

My first wife was from Wurzberg and I found every opportunity to visit that part of the family. What a great country.

I made a big effort to make it to the Oktoberfest. I was younger and on a budget--didn't have Geld for a taxi so I relied on a guide book and public transporation. By the time I got there, Oktoberfest was already wrapping up. Scheisse! It was only 10pm'ish too. Even then, I was amazed, really amazed at how DRUNK the people were while making their way out. OMG! I can just imagine if event organizers went later into the night. Geez, you're talking serious beer halls. OMG. MADD would go crazy in that country. (yeah, I dislike MADD)

yeah at the end of the last day of meetings, an older German Quality Engineer drove me from Eurocopter's facility to Munich's Airport, and the dude killed me! It didn't take 5min on the Autobahn for him to hit 230km/h (140mph) in his company Mercedes... It was so quiet (even though it was a Turbo Diesel) and smooth that I did not notice right away :) Then we started talking about motorcycles... come to find out that he used to work for 10 years as a motorcycle "type certificate" agent in Germany, certifying all bikes from BMW to Aprilia to Triumphs...etc... he told me all kinds of anecdotes about how they test the bikes and how he almost died following a tank slapper while testing an SV1000 on a big oval track in Germany... root cause: OEM Dunlop tires... That 1 hour at 230km/h was a blast talking to this dude! :)

I know! The customer keeps telling me to schedule something during the last week of September when the party starts  I told them to break something on the Helicopter and request my presence later this year :BLAA:

One reason why we should all go to germany.. how ironic that the best public track is in a country with no speed limit

Nürburgring!!! :)

in a country with no speed limit

Well, the Autobahn has speed limits in most places... only a few stretches here and there are limit-free...

then you should take your mom to my friend's little Sausage eatery here in LA:

Brats Brothers

Roland is from Munich & the food is absolutely fabulous. Real sausages, Schnitzel, sauerkraut & other Bavarian dishes, he has them all.
Bring in you own beer (or wine)!
Tell him Razvan sent you.

Cheers!

Yeh there are 99 Autobahns I believe and I think only 10 or so portions have no speed limit. As long as your not swerving like a madman the Federal Police won't really bother you on speed restricted portions

Cool thanks for the info! For the record, my mom is 100% German and lives in the North East of France (next to the German border)... her whole family (my grand parents, aunts and uncles) is still in Germany though... so she really couldn't care less about a Bratwurst restaurant in LA lol... I will take my american wife and kids there though :D
