Mesh Jacket Recommendations

I bought this one in time for summer. It feels great in very warm weather as it breathes great. The padding isn't too bad.

My summer gear is a Shift Backdraft mesh jacket and Scorpion Deuce pants (that have some mesh panels). The secret is Under Armour underneath to wick the moisture away from you body. I rode 5 hours both Sun and Mon (to and from the shore) in 90+ degree heat. I'm sure it could have been worse, but I have a tough time imagining it. 70s are perfect. I don't bitch in the 80s. But once you get into the 90s, it's gonna suck no matter what you're wearing. I just try to stop every hour to hydrate and pour some water in my helmet.

I can't wait until October, when I can throw on my Tourmaster jacket and ride all day in comfort!

I have an original Joe Rocket Phoenix mesh jacket (I guess it would be a 1.0, since there was no number after it when I bought it), and a set of FieldSheer mesh pants. I sewed an adapter zipper to mate the two pieces together in the rear. I also have a set of summer style alpinestar gloves that I wear with this. I always ride with real motorcycle boots too.

When the temperature is going to be 85 or more and no rain is forecasted, I wear the mesh. It is cool, but I hope I never have to try the suit out.... The jacket has thin perforated leather on the abrasion areas, elbows, forearms and shoulders, and has a small backpad as well as elbow, forearm and shoulder armor, but again, I hope I never have to test the gear out. I like the gloves, but I wish that they had more protection on the wrist, as they don't have any gauntlets at all.

I work at a place where 90% of the riders are cruiser/harley riders with zero gear, so I take a lot of abuse for my AGATT stance but I'm okay with that.

If it's cooler than 85 or it's going to rain, I wear my aerostich roadcrafter suit. I feel a lot safer in that thing and it's sooo convenient to get in and out of. Plus, it's waterproof and that's a good thing on a motorcycle. I just have to take the abuse at work for wearing a "snowmobile suit"....

I used to wer mesh and loved them until I wiped out on a turn while wearing one, let me tell you the thing ripped to pieces and did absolutely nothing.

Leather or nothing. Get a perforated leather jacket for more ventilation.

Thanks, perhaps I should have asked, "which mesh jacket have you used" as opposed to worn! I'll look into the perforated jackets as well.

REV'IT! Sirocco Jacket - RevZilla

It's the only one I wear all year here in New England (high of 99, low of 20). It's crazy expensive compared to the el cheapo tourmasters and shift and such, but there is no comparison really. I've crashed in it, it did it's job, and I still use it.

I really like my Scorpion Cool Rod Mesh Jacket. It has the elbow, shoulder, and spine pads and they are removable so you can wash the jacket.
It looks like Scorpion is no longer making them, but you can still find them on-line if you google it...

What type was it? I could understand if they're not quite as good as leather, but absolutely nothing?

Speed & Strenght, dont remember which one exactly. Dont get me wrong, it's better then nothing, it can softer up your impact with all the pads, but it rips right away.

I believe that, but it's not about the durability of the mesh material, but the armour inside it. All you're hoping for in a mesh jacket other than leather is for the armour to hold in place during impact and absorb the energy and abrasion.

I have to admit the spine/back protectors worked, the elbow pads did not, i got road rash on my arm by elbows as soon as material ripped, the elbow protector slipped away since there was nothing holding it in that position anymore.

It's nice to hear of some more brands that have longer jackets. I'm the same height as you, so can you tell me what size you ordered and what your sleeve/chest measurements are? I'm really interested in getting one of these if it would fit.

I wear a size 44 US (54 Euro) jacket, which translates I believe into an XL Japanese jacket. I fit into an XL armored mesh jacket, but it was a bit shorter in the torso than the motion. My sleeve length is 35, and the sleeves on the motion are just about half an inch shorter than ideal. Doesn't matter at all with my gauntlets though. With how skinny I am, the jacket is a touch baggy through the middle of the back and in the arms, but the shoulders fit snugly, as does the bottom of the jacket, and there isn't enough extra material for it to move around and annoy me in the wind.

How does the Tourmaster Intake Air fit with both liners ? I have heard that it is a little snug in the arms and tends to bunch up. I have been debating between the Tourmaster intake air 2.0 and the joe rocket phoenix 5.0.

Sorry Shawn, I honestly have no clue. I took them out and will only be using it as a summer jacket, as I have another jacket for the cooler weather.

Maybe someone else can pitch in for you.

I have a normal textile and mesh with armor job, but will replace with something like the GX air with leather sleeves and shoulders when I replace.

Speed and Strength Moment of truth vented jacket. Removable rain liner, but not well insulated for cold weather. I have an Icon textile jacket for colder weather riding.
