This was a first for me, I was riding the superslab yesterday just outside Truckee, CA on I-80 (getting home quick) at the speed limit (ok, maybe a tad faster...) and all of a sudden I felt a sharp sting on the underside of my left wrist. Then a sharp bite next to it. I screamed a few expletives which triggered the intercom between my hubbie and me. I somehow got the point across I needed to pull over (not easy with semi-trucks racing you). Pulled off my jacket to be sure the little m-f'er wasn't in my jacket still. It was hard to pull in the clutch to down shift. There was a sting mark and a red mark where I was bit. Pulled off my wedding ring and other rings incase swelling occurred. Made it the 15-20 miles home. Hurts pretty bad but OK today.

Anyone else every stung/bit by a bee (or hornet or wasp or whatever the
m-f'er was) when riding? (No evidence left over to determine what it was.)

yes, I have been stun exactly like that before.


At least 5 times I have had bees end up on the inside of my visor. Thankfully, none of those have resulted in stings.

Not stung whilst riding, had a wasp in the eye with my visor up.

Just once. It was black, and I actually saw it quite a ways out, it was very high, then it swooped down at the last minute and stung me on the neck, ouch!

Way back in the 70's when I would ride with a "regular" (non full face) helmet and often no face shield, just sunglasses, I had a bee get inside my helmet. Fortunately I was able to pull it off and dump the little bugger out before I got stung. Figured it musta got stunned when it hit me. *phew*

Somehow a wasp found it's way into my jacket, got stung right over the heart. Plus, I saw him get away!

Oh yes. I've had the proverbial 12 pound bumble bee to go up inside of my helmet and the ill-fated 20 pound laying hen to hit me full-on in the chest before. An owl committed suicide and tee-boned my rear swing arm once.. It went through my chain and rear spokes, (effectively crushing and then shredding himself).
Back when I rode smaller displacement bikes I probably should have kept my hunting license current!!! Squirrels are just mean and go into attack mode sometimes!

I was riding behind a mate once and got hit on the neck and it stung like all hell and i just assumed it was a bit of gravel thrown off his tire managed to get me between my jacket and helmet. When we stopped a bit later i ended up pulling the stinger from a bee out of my neck, the only 3 inches of exposed skin of my body and travelling at over 110km/h and it still got in there, i just figured bad luck.

The very first ride I took after getting my bike, a bee stung me in the neck. Exactly what Ben said. The only tiny bit of exposed flesh, and that's where the bee ended up after flying into me. Or maybe I flew into it. Dunno.

Also got stung on the leg once, through my pants. The bee hit my chest, I sat back and glanced down but didn't see it. Apparently, when I leaned forward again it got mad since it was caught in the crease at my hip.

Bees are mean.

Kudos to you Monica for not panicking!
And thankfully I have not had to go thru that (yet).

Two years ago a honey bee to the inside of the helmet on a narrow road. There was an off angle shoulder I skidded into and helmet was off in seconds as it was xrawling on me!!! My buddy thought I crashed.... I'm leaving that typo!

Tonight it happened - 3 years and took out a bird. A Robin to be more specific. It was like, I'm going to fly over you, wait, change my mind - fly next to you, wait, let me fly into windscreen. BOOOM!

3 Nights back a Turkey Vulture grazed the right bar. No harm no Fowl! OK - a little fowl!

The closest I've come is a large, think Men in Black size alien bug, hit me on the neck and I could feel the splatter of it's demise all over my neck and shoulder.

Was riding with DefyInertia and Cali rider in NorCal when Defy started banging the side of his helmet with his hand...then proceeded to pull to a dirt shoulder and take his helmet of faster than I've ever seen to shake a bee out of his bonnet.

Then a couple of years ago riding behind Cali rider heading into Quincy, California I saw a big black bird (crow maybe) slam into his shoulder so quickly that John didn't even know what hit him.

I've only managed to duck in time to miss being taken out by a turkey vulture that dive bombed me from a tree this summer....

Most likely it was a Yellow Jacket wasp, this has been a bad (or good for me in the bug business) year for them in the Sierras and lower foothills. My son and I rode yesterday and he had one stuck in the vent to his helmet. Been stung many times riding-still sucks.
Hit a carpenter bee once, those suckers are marbles with wings.

I'm not quite sure if it was a bee or from plant debris out of the back of a landscaping truck. I was going down the freeway and saw a truck up ahead, then all of a sudden got smacked in the neck. I swatted at my neck and nothing seemed to be there. I got to the office and began to pick at the swollen part of my neck and didn't feel anything. The next day after the swelling went down I pulled out a black stinger/thorn and it still hurt for a couple days after.

Lets just say that when a large Bumble Bee bounces off your chest and lands securely on the seat between your legs and then gets stuck between the seat and your man-bits...that denim does not stop bee stings!!!!

Closest I've come is getting hit on the cheek with a June bug when my visor was up. I have no idea how some people ride without full face helmets

I've been lucky the past 2 years but just about every year I get stung. The wasp or hornet can be just like a little sewing machine and keep tagging you but the bee has a barbed stinger and when it goes in you it stays as the bee separates from the venom gland attached to the stinger. That gland keeps pumping the venom all by it's self like a beating heart filling your injection site.
I swell up so bad from those bee stings. Hornets and wasps just sting and make a welt on me but The last time I got stung I looked like the Elephant Man. Lisa almost threw me out of the house because I kept running up to her yelling, "I am not an animal!" She would finish by saying, "You're not a human being either!" Lol!

I had to go to the doctor and they gave me steroids.

I got stung 4 times in one day when my son came here from Jersey and we went riding. The wasp weren't bad at all but those bees!
If you get a bee sting you have to scrape it off as soon as possible.
I don't panic from them. When I get stung it's like having a little hot sauce on my ride! :BLAA:

Had a wasp fly into my cracked open jacket riding and it went to town on my chest. Felt like a heart attack while I frantically tried to get the bike over. Also had a bee sting me on my tongue. That swelled up huge. Not fun at all.

Update: Saturday I had little indication that anything had occurred on my wrist after the initial pain. Sunday it was all good. Felt a little irritated if I bumped that area on something (computer keyboard). I woke up this morning (Monday) and my wrist itched bad and it's red and swollen around that area. Everyone tells me to take Benedryl but that will put me to sleep for a good 6 - 8 hours. I can only imagine what kind of trouble my 22 second graders could into while the teacher is snoozing on her desk. I'm taking some tonight and going to sleep. Yippee!!! We will see how it is in the morning. Good excuse to ditch work and go for a nice long motorcycle ride? :cheer:
