is there a ay to make them a little stronger or work harder.

The first place to start is replacing the rubber brake lines with braided steel lines. They will give a much firmer feel through the brake levers, putting more effort to the calipers with no loss of pressure through expansion of the rubber lines. If this isn't enough, switch to EBC HH sintered brake pads on the front (keep the organic pads on the rear). The "bite" on the rotor will be noticeably better, but it will be at the potential risk of gauling your front rotors if you're heavy-handed and use the front brakes a lot.

I've just replaced the front pads, first time since i got the bike, done about 35k km in over a year. I've been told i'm hard on my front brakes (from trackdays) so it's odd that i got so much milage out of them. Never had a moment's trouble, and they are really easy to change.

I like the fact that ALL the bolt heads are size 12.

I've got 22,000 miles on my 2007 stock pads. I've gont 2.6 mm left on the front and 4.1 mm on the rear. Based on the wear rate, I think I can get 35,000 miles before they reach the wear limit

Update:

I currently have 31,000 miles on my stock pads. I just had them checked when I got my new tires at 30,000 and I was told they still look great.

They feel okay too.

I had about 8K on my former Honda VTX and were starting to think about the brakes, whether I needed them or not. It is nice to know I can go a long long long way on FZ6 before ever needing them.

I appreciate this thread.....great read... :)

Thanks to you all for keeping this old thread going.
I have 18,000 K's on my bike now and I have 50% left on the front and 60% on the rear.
I will be changing my brake fluid this weekend. I might consider some steel lines for the front. I personally get plenty of feel from my rear. As it stands it is easy to lock up the rear if you’re a bit enthusiastic. I don’t think the extra bite will benefit me for my type of riding.

I just did my 20,000 mile service on my '05. Pads still have plenty of meat. I mainly use it for commuting on the highway.

Front pads were replaced at 20000km's, am sitting on 32000 km's now, and this set of pads is just about ready for replacing...

Rear pads replaced at 25000km's...lots of life still left in replacement pads..

By the way, i use Ferodo Sintered pads...

I've put 14K miles on my original pads ad I feel no need to check on them.

I might mic them when I get to 20K

Good question. Thanks!

I checked my pads while I was changing my brake lines, and they've still got about 50% life left in them at 19,000 miles. I was surprised with how much hard braking I have to do in DC traffic all the time.

is there a ay to make them a little stronger or work harder. lame question but i know !#$@$ about brakes

I just replaced my lines with HEL stainless steel brake lines (front and rear). Big difference in stopping power with stock pads.... I could probably do a "stoppy" with 2 fingers.... Highly recommended....

Front pads were dragging a little when I got the bike, cleaned the calibers, all good now. Their probably 1/2 gone with 6,000 miles on em...

Got 8,000 miles on the FJR, maybe half worn...

Usually get 12,000 miles on my KLR 250, fronts, another 2,000 miless their due (24,000 miles)...

bike has 43k km on it now, the original pads were near new when I put on the R6 front end at about 17k km. The R6 calipers came with original pads that were near worn out (around 2mm) but still lasted about 10k km. Replaced them with EBC HH pads that are still close to new 17k km later. A lot of touring and commuting but a fair bit of aggressive riding thrown in for kicks.

The rear pads are pretty much brand new still, but I don't really use my rear brake much,
