Hi all,

I am currently half way through the job of re-greasing my head bearings i.e. its all disassembled ready to be put back together. Good news is the bearings are all ok, however, when I re-assemble everything what parts should I grease up (over and above the head bearings)? Also as the front wheel spindle is removed how should I grease this i.e. smear grease all over the axle?

Cheers

According to the manual the front axle is kept dry. I think i did lightly grease mine the last time i had the front wheel off and nothing exploded.

The head bearing part says: Lubricate the upper bearing, lower bearing, the bearing races.

I would put a light coating of grease on the axle, just to keep it from getting any rust on it later. It won't hurt anything, its inside and won't attract dirt, etc.

I leave a light coat on both my axles, on every bike I've owned.

Especially so if riding in wet conditons, salt on the road, etc.

Thanks chaps, your knowledge is much appreciated

I will lightly grease the axle/steering stem and give the bearings/races a good covering
