Congrats dxh24! I originally had the 3GS and then upgraded to the 4S on launch day in October. I'm absolutely addicted to it...lol.
I had my 3GS jailbroken, so going back to stock for a while waiting on the jailbreak for the 4S was hard. To tide me over, I picked up the Samsung Galaxy SII around Thanksgiving. I was loving it, even stock. Then I decided to try rooting it (jailbreaking for Android). That made it even better. I didn't think I'd ever use my 4S again.
Then the jailbreak for the 4S came out, so off I went and jailbroke it once again. That was almost 2 months ago and I haven't thought about going back to my GSII since. Not that I dislike Android, it's just that once you've used the iPhone, everything else doesn't seem quite as civilized.
Sure, there are shortcomings when it comes to iOS...lack of basic controls in Notification Center (turning on and off WIFI, Bluetooth, etc. quickly), a quick reply option for text messages...but these are things that can be overcome by jailbreaking. Even if they couldn't, I'd still go back to the iPhone just because it's so smooth and dependable.
As far as apps go, if you like Twitter try Tweetbot. Boxcar is great for keeping all your notifications in order. Tapatalk is amazing (as has already been mentioned). I recently came across Flipboard...I'm now addicted to it. It's an app that gives you tons of news in tons of different categories.
And we haven't even talked about the camera. Man, it's completely replaced my point-and-shoot. I use it constantly, both at work and home.
Here's a list of things I've got that I really recommend:
The Weather Channel - nice app!
SoundHound - worth every penny. Easily and quickly identify songs, even by just humming or singing them yourself!
Dropbox - a "cloud" service that allows you to upload and download files to and from your phone. Install the desktop client to your PC and, like iCloud, it will automatically sync to your phone and desktop.
IMDb - Internet Movie Database...you'll use this more than you imagine. I can't count how many times I've been talking to someone and we've said "what movie was that guy in?". Just open the app, and you've got all the movie trivia answers you could ever want.
PS Express - Photoshop Express. Allows you to quickly edit photos right on the phone.
Photobucket - another great app if you use Photobucket. You can quickly upload photos right to your account.
While the stock Maps app is good, it's kinda lacking nowadays. For free options, try Waze or MotionX GPS Drive. GPS Drive is free, but you can get voice navigation (spoken street names) for $10 a year. MapQuest also has a nice app with voice navigation. If you wanted a full-fledged navigation app (and are willing to pay $40), Navigon has a wonderful app.
I think that's about it for apps available on the App Store. I've got tons of others that are from Cydia (the app store for jailbroken phones), but I'll save those for if you decide to jailbreak. :thumbup:
