Sorry to hear that Lone. Keep your head up. Something better is always around the corner. At any rate, best of luck with the search.

Bummer to hear...But like everyone has said, something better will come. Not even the military is stable anymore.

Your an awesome being! You're not just someone's employee! I'm not a bit worried for you. You'll be fine!
You've been chased by a raging mother bear and her cubs on a dark "Lonely" trail and crashed on a bike with a license plate that says DOOMED! You've picked up your machine, got back on, and continued the adventure and made it home. You have a great quality of character that anyone would be lucky to work with. Actually not working with me cuz we'd be laughing all the time and get fired anyway.
Look at who you are. Look at this journey. We'll all be fine.

Another boarder here in Mass got laid off last year, and I tried like hell to get him a job, but to no avail. Hope your luck is better, Lone. You're one of the good ones.

Well, if there where any coworkers/bosses you hated, at least you don't have to deal with them anymore! :D Now it's off with you to find something better!

I've got to say that I am overwhelmed by the support here.

Thank you all. I do appreciate it.

And yes in the end I am sure I will be fine. I've been through some very rough stretches in the past as well. The reason it hit harder this time was because of the sacrifices I made to get and keep this job....not just with respect to effort but to other opportunities I gave up to go down this road. And in the end they just discard you like trash.

Another lady (the office co-ordinator), literally the heart and soul of the office such a great lady, had been working there for 10 or 15 years. They let her go with zero warning and didn't even let her say goodbye to anyone.....15 god damn years. Not even allowed to say a word to anyone and escorted off the premises.

When it comes completely out of the blue like this did, some people say getting laid off is like being bashed in the face with a baseball bat out of nowhere. With these guys it was more like a hand over the mouth and a knife through your back, after which they drag you out the back....unnoticed.

The company has laid off about 15 of it's 60 or so people from our design group and each time nobody knew or heard about it until a day or two had passed and word started to get whispered around that so and so person had been canned.

It is such a shady way of doing it. Really grinds my gears.

As for myself going forward, I will approach this as I have always approached everything....just another challenge to overcome. I have the reserves of determination required to get where I want to be. It will happen. But oh what I would give for that time back so I could have applied myself in another direction.

Maybe I'll go back to school? I've got enough to keep me going for a while yet, and if I rent out my basement I can work part-time and change industries.

Anyway, that's just me thinking out loud. I will end by re-iterating my appreciation for everyone's kind words and encouragement. You really go into a bad/weird head-space.

And it is genuinely amazing how much a motorbike ride can be helpful. It is a truly wonderful sport/activity/pursuit.

Best of luck, what ever happens it is for the better, I'm sure! Keep the your chin up and both hands on your bars, and lean into your turns, like you have been doing! You could always move down here to the USA and look for a job!
