This is the bike that arrived here (in the US) as a 2009 model called the FZ6R.

It is about 20hp down on an FZ6. It has a different swingarm, triple tree and only 2 piston calipers up front instead of the 4 pots on an FZ6.

It may be that they are just trying to get into the middleweight market.

It's currently dominated by Suzuki who have somewhere in the region of 8-10 models in the 600 / 650 bracket.

It's the most popular bike size for people who've just passed their test and it would make sense to target that market.

The FZ6 is now missing from Yamaha's UK web site. :(

There is however an XJ6 Diversion F...

MCN today had a story on the FZ8 coming out in 2010, though the picture of the bike was 'computer generated', so the whole thing might just be a bit of fluff. Can't find it on motorcyclenews.com, sorry.

Elsewhere in the same issue, they rode the fully faired Diversion in the US and didn't rate the full fairing as being much cop.

Minus the SV now

I'm not keen on the new XJ6R, it looks kind of odd to me, a bit griffin-like! Loses out to the Fazer in my opinion, not sure why Yamaha would want to ditch such a decent all-rounder...but then Suzuki have done the same with the SV650.
