Finding/Using longer engine mount screws?

Hey guys, I have a 2006 fz6 and have this engine guard installed on it:

I got myself some frame sliders i wanted to install:

Shogun Frame Sliders Yamaha FZ6 2004-2010 - RevZilla

However when installing I realized these do not really go together and the engine mount screw is not long enough to secure all these pieces together. .. Is it possible to find longer engine mount screws? Would that not be advisable?

Absolutly get the right lenth bolts... Its very likely it WILL strip the block.

There have been several cases of STRIPPED ENGINE CASES due to this.

If you want to hunt down bolts, make sure ***their the same installed lenth as the stock bolts**.


IMO, I think its a little over kill having both.
The cage you currently have should work fine. If you add a bobbin to the end of it, its stickong WAY OUT and giving a lot move leverage to the bolt/bobin to bust your frame / block should you go over..

I have a cage fitted and sliderss, the reason being, that with just the cage the top of the fairing hits the ground if the bike goes on its side.
I have flop and dropped the bike with both cage and sliders in situ with out any issues. I purchased longer bolts from a hardware store.

I would say just make sure you get a high grade bolt. Engine mounting hardware in a crash is not something you want to mess around with.

I was one of the unlucky few that stripped the threads when removing/installing frame sliders.

By the looks of things your problem may be coming from attempting to fit both the bars and sliders - the bolts supplied with your sliders should be slightly longer than the originally fitted bolts to accomdate for the added length of the slider, these will most likely be too short with the bars also fitted.

A possible solution would be to get hold of some longer bolts from a hardware store BUT make sure they are high tensile steel and the correct thread pitch.
