F-Trip longevity

Here's a poll to see how far you usually go once your F-Trip comes on!

This stems from me being stubborn lately and I'm waiting another 20 miles with the F-trip blinking...supposedly it comes on with a gallon of fuel left which means 40miles (for me).

Normally i only try and let it go for about 35 - 40km's...but just once, i got lazy, forgot, and ended up pushing!

I've run the the tank down to where it takes 4.6 gallons, but that's as close as I ever got to empty. GRUMPY

i also run it until i get scared, i have run 34 miles on the F-Trip and was so scared i had to pull in to a station... it took 4.64 galons... I could have made it home...oh well

I'll go to 20, 25 if I'm that far out from a station.... No more than that usually. I did make it 36 miles and was babying her the whole way once. Did not run out and it took 4.91 gallons. Whew!

I voted immediately fill (and typically fill before f-trip) but only because during my normal commute I travel in HOV lanes which are surrounded by jersey walls and have limited exits. Due to how far apart the exits/entrances are to HOV and the proximity of gas stations if the f-trip were to come on on my way into work I would potentially have to coax 35 miles out of it or go really really far out of the way to get gas after 17 miles.

If not commuting it will depend where I am. If I am in town and know their are gas stations in 20-25 miles I will ride that far. If I'm unfamiliar with the area I fill at the first gas station I see.

I go about 20, and I usually get about 4.3 in 'er when I do fill up. I've gone 32, but that made me quite nervous.
If you run out of fuel once, you tend to be more cautious.

It may not have been a poll, but I remembered there were several threads relating to how far we can go on reserve. Here's one of the links.

I'm pretty consistent on fuel ups. I usually ride about 30 miles on Reserve - with blinking reminder, which usually ends up around 210 on the trip meter for the tank, And I usually take in about 4.7 gal of fuel everytime.

I did 45 miles once, but I was sweating bullets hoping that it didn't die. I ended up getting 4.75 gallons in it.

I always fill up when I ride..I'm 12 miles from the nearest town. And for the record..I don't walk and I won't push...someone will come to my rescue...even if I have to hike up my pantleg!! LOL!!

I do 22 miles easily after the F-Trip starts flashing. Not going to push it much further though.

My average over the last 21 tanks (yes I keep track; I'm a dork I know) was 21 miles. I've gone over 39 miles more than once and never run out. The three highest values I have are 39.1, 39.1, and 39.7 miles and on those occasions I put in 4.833, 4.644, and 4.673 gallons.

I've also calculated also the theoretical miles worth of gas left in the tank when the F-trip meter trips. The value is always right about 50 miles but I haven't tried to push it that far.

Never done more than 20 miles on F-trip. Good to know I could push it a bit if I had to.

I'll get beaten down for not 'searching' for this first, but since I'm typing anyway..... Is anyone aware of a fuel pump burn-out on an FZ6 as a result of overheating due to low fuel levels? (i.e., lack of cooling - the pump is in the tank I assume). Just curious. I've never run across a story about this problem on our bikes, but I've heard it's an issue on others.

Since I live behind a gas station (not behind, but the Apt complex shares an entrace with it), and I work like 10 miles from home I will normally ignore it and just fill up the following morning before work.

Once when I worked about 25 miles away (and over a bridge), I forgot that I didnt get gas...... 46 miles and I was pushing......

I did 61.5 miles once, but ran out of gas. I just did 55 miles and filled up with 4.879 gal, 32 miles with 4.48 gal, 46.6 miles with 4.524 gal. According to my calculations I have 1.3 gals left when F-trip comes on. I think I can do about 60 miles. Having said that, I usually fill up within about 30 miles after f-trip...and yes, I reset the trip odometer every time, fill up on the center stand until gas is even with the plate (with the holes in it) so, I know where I am.

I voted for I have run out before . but that just becuse I like to after a new bike is broke in I run it dry at least once to see how long it will go before it stops running
