dropped my new bike :-(

Been riding my 125 for 3 years with no drops or accidents. Got my brand new 08 reg Yamaha FZ6 S2 last Saturday and dropped it yesterday!!! Well pissed off. The guy in front of me braked full on and I guess I reacted too late. I jammed on the brakes, the front wheel locked up and lost all grip and just skidded (it was like I was on sheet ice !!! Maybe having brand new tyres didn't help?) Next thing I know I'm on my arse in Oxford Circus, London with all the cars just weaving to avoid me and no-one coming to help!! Somehow picked the bike up and wheeled it to the side of the road where I noticed some fluid (about a tablespoons worth of greeny yellowy stuff had leaked out of it from somewhere. I biker I met said that it was probably leakeage from one of the overflow pipes?). Started it and rode off to park it. It seemed to ride ok and hasn't leaked a drop since. There is no visible major damage and only the edge of the handlebars and brake lever are scratched. Ironically I'd just got crash bungs for it and couldn't fit them cos I didn't have an allen key big enough to remove the original screws DOH!! (I've fitted them now though!!)

Oh well, chalk this one up to experience and will get back on as soon as I can (I've buggered my arm so can't ride it yet)

I guess it could of been worse!!

PS does anyone know the best place/site to get replacement brake levers and handlebar ends for the FZ6 S2?

Just glad to hear your in reasonably good shape and that the bike's not too bad.

When I slid and scratched up my bar end and brake lever I cheaped out on the fix. They are both soft metal and easily filed back into shape. Hit them with a fine sand papaer or sanding cloth after cleaning them up with the file. The brake lever should look close to new if you are careful - just a little more dull where you have sanded. You can take off the bar end and after doing the filing and sanding you can re-paint it. I you re-paint both bar ends at the same time they'll look new again.

stinks that you dropped the new bike, although as you have probably noticed, it is a different beast from the 125. it will react differently in emergency situations, take it to a parking lot and practice some maneuvers when your arm gets better, it will help you out next time.

OK. I've found the coolant thingy (OK, so I'm not technical at all !!!) and it looks the exact colour of the stuff that was leaking from my bike. When I pull the bike up to standing it sits just above the min mark. So I guess I should put some more in. Here's the problem. Just what coolent do I need. The manual doesn't say or maybe there is only one type of coolent. Can someone help me cos I can go and get it tomorrow and get my bike back up and running!

Sorry to hear that. There is a a post about ABS for FZ6 and as we learn there is ABS option for everybody else except for North America (?!).
May be beyond the point now after you already hit the floor but to avoid same next time.

wanted the ABS version but my dealer said it was only available in the UK as a special import and I would have to wait some months? Couldn't wait though !!!

If you're just going to add a few ounces to top it off, I'd just put some distilled water in there. There is however a thread dedicated to coolant choices; I believe the thread was started by Elm and you will be able to locate it by using the SEARCH function. FWIW, during the warmer months I use distilled water with the recommended amout of "water wetter" mixed in.

when i moved from my cbr 125 onto the fazer :thumbup: i spent some time getting to know how it would react especially when coming to a sudden stop and taking off fast. I would suggest you go for the Bike Safe training Bikesafe - Motorcycle Rider Safety

I hope you have gone thru the incident in your mind so that next time you will be prepared and know how to react correctly.

Pleased to hear you're OK, It sounds as if the damage to the bike was minimal, I think it was probably your pride that took the biggest impact. Be careful, especially in London.

Once you reach a comfort zone, put on the new parts. Reiobard made an excellent point. Go practice in a vacant lot do develop some experience. It happens to all of us at some point! No worries!!

Well back on July 21st I believe was the date. I took my 2006 FZ6 and launched it off a left bank corner going a wee bit faster then I realized till I looked at the speed-o-meter and was running 51MPH taking the corner to wide and not having time to compensate for the turn I downshifted out of 4th gear dropping it into 2nd by mistake and rode off into the sunset dwon the hill and flipping .
Find out if the bike can be fixed. Plastic not a big issue to replace but found a crack in the block underneath the starter. Think I could have bent my crank from the impact.

No fluids leaking out and it did turn over but with a sudden stop. So I could be looking at a engine overhaul or just new engine.

I dropped mine unloading it off of my trailer the day I bought it. The gravel driveway shifted under the front tire, and suddenly the bike was slowly pushing me into the ground.

FZ6inNH is right on the money. I dropped mine the 1st day I rode it. Thankfully, I was completely stopped. Being vertically challenged (read short), I already have problems getting my feet down and this time, I stopped right next to a pothole in the street

Anyways, I wanted to fix the broken clutch handle that was partially snapped off but didn't. Bike was still ride able. Had I fixed it right away, I'd be fixing it again as I dropped it a 2nd time weeks later. (wet road. boot slipped out from under me )

It's fixed now but I've put quite a few miles on another bike to build up my skills and am a lot more comfortable on my FZ6. I still have much to learn, but I'm at the point that I very much need to ride it to get better with it.

Really glad you are OK, given the traffic and all. I've been ridding since the sixties and have found a lot of different ways to do that. With my FZ6, I pulled out of the garage onto the gravel dive and started lifting my foot onto the pegs. Just then my riding suit chose to snag the foot rest and the front wheel bogged down in the gravel. I knew instantly I was a gonner. Bet it looked hilarious to everyone else, my two young grandsons came to the rescue to get my leg out from under the bike.

As I've heard it, there are bikers that have dropped it, those that are going to, and those that will lie about it. So you have joined the group and had the moxey to tell about it.
