Design my bikes new paint scheme...win 1000000 credits!

Capo, nice work. Though I prefer the first take with the smaller filmstrip on the seat bits.

I suck at this type of re-touching despite having used photoshop for years...

Really nice work!
Are these pics are made with Photoshop?
If yes, would someone be so gentle to describe rough which steps are necessary for that? Would really like to know that.

Been looking at the strip myself, and I tend to agree with you. Might change it one more time, we'll see;)

I've been working with PS for many years, some times in a professional way, but mostly as a fun thing to do in my spare time (which I really don't have too much of...)

Masking, hue and saturation, filter...

That's the key words. And of course, you'll need to have some patience;)

Mastering photoshop is a black art...from my limited experience with it....is one of those things i reckon you needd to have someone who knows their way around the program to give you a few tips to get you moving...unluckily for me, i dont have it anymore...must get onto that.

As for your designs Mr Capo...,they are very good....

Thanks:Flash:

But you know... Google can be a very good friend when you want to "get there" with PS;)

Are this special Photoshop filters?

disclaimer: it's early, i'm only now having my coffee, this is free info probably better found just by using google, i'm an idiot...

Masking: making a selection around an object or shape which then allows you to edit the part of the image within the selection area, while the parts outside of the mask are protected from change. Sorta like using masking tape.

Hue and saturation: terms for referring to differences in color values (what color and how strong a color is). There are really wonky, technical definitions but here's my attempt at putting it in layman's terms. Hue really is just another way to say color. Seriously. Saturation, as the word itself suggests, refers to how much of the color is in the color. We change the saturation of a hue by "adding or subtracting" white or black.

Here's a link to a site that breaks it all down fairly well:
http://www.ncsu.edu/scivis/lessons/colormodels/color_models2.html#hue.

Filter: pshop has a ton of filters that can be applied to create different effects. One that would be useful in this context is render/lighting effect.

Here's a simple, flat graphic:

A lighting effect would give an effect something like this:

A lens flare (another filter in pshop) refers to a highlight of the type you get when you take a photo out in the bright daylight, facing the sun, and you get one (or more) of those bright spots or halos of light in your image. Like this:

You can see in the image below that there are a couple of highlights on the hub -- the white spots. Without those white spots the image would look rather flat. Those are referred to as "specular highlights." If there's no specular highlight in an image, it appears flat and unnatural. You can create spots like this using the lighting effect filter, it just takes some practice. Or you can "paint" them onto your image by slowly building up spots of white.

I'll shut up now...

well if that ^ is an idiot....I must be a :tard:

I'll just go back to laughing at the wolf shirt reviews because I have nothing useful to add :P

Hello,

thank you for the information. I tried to color some parts of my FZ6 to see how it looks, earlier. The marking and hue+saturation I got. But the final image still looked not natural cause of that I asked which filters are used.
Will practise a little more. :-)

Post up some of your work (don't hijak Wolfman's thread) and I am sure some of the friendly folks on here will give you an honest judging and some pointers :D

are you planning on painting the bike yourself or paying to have it done. One thing you can consider is doing a vinyl warp. It is pretty cool and might be able to be done with out pulling everything off the bike. If you ever wreck and need to replace a section you just send in the on part and it will all line up. I have a friend that does it, probably a little far for you to use him but it gives you an idea of what can be done. Here is his portfolio he has done race cars, trucks, and boats. Just an idea but it makes it way cheaper to do some sweet graphics. http://www.zentx.com/portfolio-v.html

But someone that knows their way around the program and is actually good probably does it for a living and they will never tell you how to do it unless you pay them. Don't you know that ;)

I have some ideas. Just have to find the time to sit down and do it. I'm also glad no one else has done what i'm thinking.

A mate is going to do the basic yellow base..he is a spray painter, and another mate is going to do the graphics in vinyl....laser cut.

Am ordering a second set of plastics, which we will paint the same, with the same graphics...just bought a second tank too, so same applies to that...

at least that way, if a sponsor comes on board, and we need to change things, it should not be too much of a drama.

Thanks for your input...it's a good idea, and one we are sorta going with.

The yellow with the smaller fim strip is really good.

Now can someone make the rest of the engine and frame silver so I can decide what to do with my bike please?

Steve
