CO2 Adjustment

I know this has been covered before...

I had a look at my CO1 and CO2 and they were both set to 0. (UK bike).

I changed CO1 to 10 and CO2 to 15. Started the bike, and it seemed a touch quieter on tickover and felt a little smoother on the throttle with slightly better pickup. All subjective I know.

So I then changed CO1 to 30 and CO2 to 40. That felt like it made no difference. I have left it like that and I am going to see if it affects fuel consumption. I doubt it, my gut feeling it the bike was running just a touch too lean. The change was pretty small. Though could have just been my perception. I'll change back both back to 0 when I next fill up and see if I notice any change going backwards.

I'll keep you all posted.
 
raising leans out the bike? I thought it was the other way round. If the numbers go up then it raises the CO2 in the exhaust, meaning its burning more fuel, getting richer?

I shall try going below 0 on my next fill up and see what happens.
 
Let me know man. Both mine were set to 0 as well. And yes, raising the values RICHENS the mixture as far as I know. I currently have mine both at 30 (exhaust, cat delet and filter) but fuel consumption is the same. I really don't think it does too much.
 
i could be wrong, but i figured that CO was Carbon/Oxygen which to me means Air. Increasing air in a fuel air mixture is the definition of leaning out an engine:don'tknow:
 
I dunno either lol. BUT I forget who it was...but someone had dyno numbers that showed the more he upped the #'s the more fuel was added. I have upped mine a bit and can't say I notice anything different lol.
 
Check your plugs to see if its burning differently. Mine is a UK bike and mine were -5 stock I think.

I thought that the CO meant CO2?

C1 is for cylinders 1 & 3, & C2 for 2 & 4... increasing these values decreases the A/F ratio, which means you'll be running richer.

My recommendation: stop tweaking things you have no idea about! Your bike was designed and tuned by experts and if you start modifying things that affect your A/F ratio, get a PCIII and go get a custom map... Modifying these numbers randomly is risky and you may impact the reliability of your engine.

What makes you think I don't understand air/fuel ratios?

My bike was designed by experts to meet emission and noise regs not necessarily to run perfectly.

It has been well documented that a PCIII does little to improve the fuelling of an FZ6. And besides, that is not what I am trying to do.

Modifying these numbers is an experiment, it is what scientists do to try and improve things. If it works it stays, if not, it goes back. So far, for my bike and for where I am the stock settings weren't optimum. My first try, improved things, and that was based on reading what others have done and some rational reasoning by myself.

But thank you for confirming that increasing CO1 & 2 enriches the mixture.
 
I did not say you don't understand A/F ratios, I said you don't understand the impact that changing these numbers really has on your A/F, engine, performance...etc. It was not an attack, I was just stating a fact.

In any case, if you think you can use your butt dyno to make a proper judgment about changes to C1 and C2, good luck with your experiments! It's your bike! :)

So, today, I set CO1 & CO2 to -20 and went for a short run. It felt fine. No problems. I thought it must all be in my head.

I then set CO1 back to 10 and CO2 back 15 where I noticed an improvement coming from 0 yesterday. I went for a few miles more and yes it did feel smoother again.

I filled up, not expecting a change in fuel consumption, but there was, I had achieved 58mpg rather than 54mpg. That was 110 miles yesterday on the higher CO numbers with 20 today.

So, I am leaving CO1 at 10 and CO2 at 15.
