Mrs. Reiobard
Wow, I haven't been on here in forever. First off, hello everyone....long time no see. Anyway, since having my little girl almost three years ago, I haven't been terribly active on the whole motorcycle scene (and forums went by the wayside, especially this one).
Anyway, I rebuilt my forks last night, since as those of you who have had SVs before, or know someone who does, would know, they are notorious for having really weak suspensions. It is part 1 of a 2 part suspension overhaul. I will be doing a bolt-on GSXR shock on the rear next time I have some free time. Rob (reiobard) helped me out a bit, but mostly let me do all the work, since I am trying to fall back in love with my lady here. New oil, new springs, longer spacers, and more pre-load all add up to no longer being able to bottom it out by pushing on the front.
Some pics to show the process.
The triple tree was a b*tch to loosen, but I got most of the nuts without too much struggle.....I noticed it really helped to have little girlie hands to get in those tight spaces.
"Fork you"
She has no legs....
So gross it smelled bad.....
New oil!
Legs back on
She sits up a bit higher now, but I can slam on the front and she doesn't go very far. It's like a suspension is supposed to feel! Preload adjusters are set all the way out, just til I get it out and actually ride a bit, so there is still plenty of room to stiffen it up if I decide I want more.
Special thanks to Rob for guiding me and making sure I didn't screw anything up more than he would have.
