I called the service department and told them the situation. They said I needed to bring it in so I asked if I could stop by during my lunch hour, hoping they would just swap batteries or something. He said I'd need to leave my bike there and it would take them almost a month to get to it. A brand new motorcycle and I'd have to leave it with them for a month?!? After talking to several local people about this dealer they heard nothing good about their service department and said I should have gone elsewhere to get my bike.
I called up the sales department and told them I would be returning the motorcycle. I doubt if I would have seriously returned it and if I did I would have either gone to a different dealer or looked online for a slightly used FZ6. The owner got on the phone and said that because I bought the bike on Thursday I won't have to wait a month and to go ahead and bring it in. After bringing it in the guy said the charging system on the bike was fine but they couldn't check the battery without fully charging it first. Because I drove it in without a backup ride I told them I couldn't leave it with them, so they suggested I come back tomorrow with just the battery. Today I brought them the battery and he said once the battery is charged and checked he wants me to bring the bike and battery in for them to make sure everything is okay.
I asked him about those trickle chargers and he said it will not void my warranty, and in fact Yamaha recommends it. So I bought one from another shop. I can't recall the brand offhand, but it did say "junior" after it. Cost me about $30 (dealer wanted $80).
By the way, what's the thing about squids? :squid: I saw a post somewhere about a guy not wearing gear and calling him a squid. Why a squid? I currently wear a helmet and would like to get other riding gear but the dealer charges a ton for them. Any idea where I can get something a little less expensive?

Out of the 4 major Japanese motorcycle brands the only one I haven't owned is Kawasaki, probably because it takes the longest to spell.
Anywho, I've always been a Yamaha rider and have preferred Yamaha over Honda and Suzuki.
As far as the spare battery, i charge that about every 3-4 days.
Speaking of, I also have a Raptor 350 and a Wolverine 350. What can I say, I like Yamaha. Anyway, could the battery from these ATVs serve as a spare battery if I needed it in my FZ6? I haven't looked at them to see if it would fit and it's too wet outside to ride anyway. I thought I'd ask for future reference.
I left on my lights about 5 months ago and it killed the battery.
Question: How can you leave the lights on without removing the key? Everything shuts off when I pull the key from the ignition, do people here leave the key on when they walk away? Or is there a switch I haven't seen on my bike? Just curious.
