Are you an Organ Donor?

I never wanted to have this on my license. Pissed my wife off. She used to say "We're doctors. We, more than anyone else, know the importance of donating organs. They give life..." blah blah blah. All I could think of was that Monte Python routine (was it Life of Brian?) where they show up at the guy's door and say they need his liver. He says I'm not dead and they say too bad, you signed up and we need your liver. And then they start hacking out his liver. But when I passed my Motorcycle Test and the woman at the registry said deadpan style: "if you're going to ride a motorcycle you might as well put organ donor on your license" I realized she and my wife were right. If something terrible happened then maybe something good could happen from that.

Class D and M are my endorsements to drive a car and motorcycle respectively.

No. Although I routinely donate blood during the drives and with regards to organ donation, well its part of my living (dying or dead) will.
I do however tell everyone who inquires about my bike and what possessed me in getting one........ that I did sign the organ donation portion on my license

I am not a donor...there have been cases where an injured person was identified as an organ donor and certain life saving practices were not employed to save the life of the person. I have heard of this happening at the EMS/ on-scene level only...not in a hospital setting.

yep. I sure am, as when I may be in need of an organ, I'd hope there would be one available to me as well.
I actually believe that when you're not a donor, you shouldn't receive them as well, or at least be pushed to the back of the donor list.

I would like to see the documented case(s) of this happening.. Being a former EMT I would extend every life saving practice in my power unless directed by a higher medical authority to stop. Your status as an organ donor makes no difference in the care I or anyone I've ever worked with would administer!

I gladly would donate any organ that someone else may find lifesaving after my demise.

Ha! This sounds like urban legend! But frankly, if my condition is so bad I'm on the threshold of survival vs being a donor, I'd say pass the organs on.

Did I tell you about the time I hooked up with a smokin' hot girl at a local bar. I woke up the next morning in a bathtub full of ice and a sign that said to call 911.

i plan to but never get around to it..a close freind of mine was involved in a head on collision while on holiday in Crete..he was riding a hire scooter and was hit head on by a truck on a mountain road.. i'd like to think it was instant and painless..however as untimley and horrific his death was he was able to give a little girl the gift of sight by donating his cornia's

I have registered for anything except my eyes. (A personal belief. Anyway I've got laser surgery done to em, so they are most likely useless anyway )

I personally think that it would be OK to pass a law saying that if you don't sign up as a donor, - you can't get any organs transplanted even if you need em.

There was an attempt at changing the law here in UK anyone would be a donor by default..you would have to apply not to..however is was overruled by the EU court of human rights

Well ...... The EU seems to be able to f*ck up every good initiative not coming from within the EU-parliament..... So Im not really chocked on that one

Same over here, but I've been registered for a long time anyway. I haven't given blood for quite sometime, I'll have to do something about that.

Yep, I'm a donor. Maybe it will help someone, maybe someone else will end up helping me if I need it.

I just hope that no one grabs anything while I'm still using it.

Actually, my daughter the EMT tells me that those that ride without helmets are privately referred to as "organ donors"
