Acerbis Dual Road Handguard - help!

Bought a set of these:

Paramano Strada

And they come with fitting bolts and nuts that goes into your handlebar ends.

The problem with my 08 Fazer S2 is that it's got a whacking big screw thread inside the handlebar ends, so I can't get the Acerbis Handguard fitting nut inside!

The Acerbis site application list:

lists "every FZ6" - methinks, maybe Fazer's have different handlebar inners than the nakeds?

Anyway, before I go back to Acerbis, have a go at a lashup, ask my dealer to look at it or just give up, anybody fitted a set of these and can advise?

Mines the 08 S2 too,no problem fitting the bolt. Make sure the shaft with slots has not started to open by over tightening before inserting.

Only thing I had to do was move my clutch lever inboard a few mm to clear the handguard.

The thread size is common across the range I believe. I am away from home until Friday, so can't measure the thread size for you until then.

Thanks for the reassurance it'll work, but I still can't get my head around it (doh!). Sorry if I'm being really dim...

Ok, we've got:
- a bolt that secures the handguard (let's call this a)
- a spacer (b)
- a cylinder that goes inside the handlebar, around the bolt (c)
- a conical locking nut, that goes on the end of the bolt I guess and into the cylinder, tightening it against the inside of the handlebar? (d)

But how do you tighten (d) against (a)? Anyway, (a) and (c) both fit inside the handlebar thread, but not (d). So how do you get (d) in there?

I'm guessing all this, because no instructions came with my kit

All I've got is what's on the Acerbis website:

Did you get two sizes of (d) in your kit? And used the smaller one?

I think, if you've got the same thread inside your handlebars as me, I'm simply doing something wrong. Maybe, I should:
- put (a) through (b) and (c)
- screw (d) onto the end of (a), not too tight as you suggest
- insert into the handlebar, with a little force if necessary...?
- tighten (a)

Am I right?

I fitted a pair to the wifes GSR which was a pain to get the bar ends out of, but had a lot more room for me to work out how to do it.

The FZ weight came off easy with the correct size allen key.The crap line drawing on the box is pretty useless, but this is what I did.

Bolt through the guard, then slide the widest keyed insert so that the key locates in the guard.

Slide the cylinder with the open end of the slots facing away from the guard/keyed insert (I had to force mine over the bolt while turning it until it pops over the thread). The key on the cylinder fits in the keyed insert

Screw the shorter stubby nut thing onto the thread with the narrow end first. This has two lugs which will fit into the slots of the cylinder, finger tighten so that the lugs fit into the slots. Everything is now held in position,and can't turn thanks to the keys and lugs.

Push the whole thing into the bar end, it should fit fairly easily.

Hold the guard while slowly tightening with an allen key. As it gets tighter get the guard in the right position. While tightening I also found it best to keep pressure on the guard so that it is a tight fit against the end of the handle bar.

Remember that getting the whole thing out is going to be difficult, so take care to get it right.

When you have finished you should see a bit of the collar visible between the grip and the guard.

Yes, they fitted fine - I just needed the confidence from reading on this forum that others had succeeded for me to get on with it!

Pictures below. I've had them on for a while now without any problems. Yes, they do hit the fairing at the last few mm of full lock, but they bend easily enough to a) allow full lock and b) not mark the fairing or the handguards themselves.

LEDs would be cool but need wires running up along handlebars to power them; for me, with heated grips, GPS etc I've got enough going on there already.

P.S. I recall one of my OE levers (clutch, I think) did make contact with a handguard on maximum pull but didn't hamper its operation. Fitting shorty levers - as well as being a fabulous mod in their own right - obviously sorts out any potential problem there.

Just ordered a set of these myself after the write ups on here and was wondering if anyone has fitted the optional LED's? Not sure how they fit from what I have seen on the net and would be gratefully for any advice!:BLAA:

May be handy for the long winter nights up here as anything that gets you noticed has to be good.
