Acerbis Dual Road Handguard - result!

After initial bafflement on my part, following some encouragement that they would fit (thanks Alan :thumbup, these handguards did go on ok. Basically, you take off your bar ends and secure them into your handlebars. Two issues with fitment:

• 
  I've got Yamaha OE grip heaters fitted and the throttle grip is in contact with the handguard. I'm satisfied it won't snag the the throttle, potentially keeping it open when not required but I'm going to keep a close eye on it;

• 
  the clutch lever does make contact with the inside of the handguard, but only on full retraction. Again, I'm satisfied it won't hinder my usually faultless operation of the clutch , but I'll watch that, too. Obviously, shorty levers would eliminate the problem.

Now on to the $64 questions:

What do they look like?
See below. You decide. I think, while not actively enhancing the look of the Fazer, they're not too bad, particularly if the bike (like mine) is black. I 'think' these handguards come only in black

Do they snag the fairing?
Yes and no. Technically, yes - see the last photo below - about the last 5-10mm of travel of the bars puts the handguard in touch with the fairing. In practice, I would say no - because the handguards bend easily on contact with the fairing to achieve full lock. With the steering lock on, for example (which on my bike isn't quite full lock) the handguard isn't touching the fairing.

Do they work?
I'll find out tomorrow and let y'all know. I've got 2 x 1 hour rides in forecast rain and 6C.

Thanks for the write-up. I've been searching for and reading these threads. I've got a longish commute these days and by the last 1/4 of it, my fingertips are starting to go numb. I'll be interested to hear how well these work. IMHO, they're one of the better looking guards. And the clearance "issues" don't sound all that bad.

I like them. But I don't like the price. Those things are expensive! My Powermadd handguards are great in cold weather, I suspect you will have similar results with these.

Well done Simon, hey they look good and the slight contact with the fairing sounds OK too.

You should be able to move the clutch inboard a couple of mm even with brackets and stuff you have on there to clear the guard, that's what I did with mine.

As for price, they are expensive ish, but they look a lot more stylish than other hand guards I have seen. And the end of bar mounting removes issues of finding room for the mounting bracket that you get with normal hand guards.

Anyway....update!

Do they work?
Absolutely! 2 x 1 hour rides down the motorway today at the usual (ahem) 90mph in about 5C and, even with my heated grips turned off for the duration, no cold finger ends. Result! No real rain as forecast, so I didn't get to test whether they keep my hands drier, but I'm expecting they will, at least a bit.

Thanks to this forum and y'all for bringing this mod to my attention and helping me fit it.

I've rewarded myself for a job well done with a pair of ASV shorty levers in black, to be fitted by my dealer next Saturday.

Yes, they replace the bar end and secure inside the handlebar and no, they're not weighted.

I would guess they weigh the same as the bar end or there abouts, certainly no more vibes than before.

I've been looking at getting these:

Barkbuster Storms, pretty large and ugly, but they should get the job done, plus they only attach on one point meaning those of us with throttlemeisters can still have full use. Anyone have them yet?

I bought the Acerbis dual road handguards a while ago.

There are some pros and cons.

Pros:
+They really do work. They protect from cold, rain even bugs and debris!
+IMO, the best looking guards with optional LED stripe upgrade.
+Easy installation. No problem with the handlebar space.

Cons:
-Very expensive (90e)
-Mounting kit is a joke. It gets rusted in no time and the counter-nut (I don't know how it's called) inside the handlebar is not very firm.
-They are NOT weighted. By replacing the OEM bar-ends with the much lighter handguard-bar-ends you get a lot more vibrations. On a 3 hour non-stop ride my hands where totally numb.
-While driving fast (>230km/h) the left guard got loose and pointed down (to the fuel tank) without me noticing it. Upon arrival in the city, near the first red-light I tried to steer to the left, only to find out that the guard was blocking my steering, pushing against the fuel-tank. I almost hit the truck in front of me.

Then I decided to trade them for OEM-mirrors with a friend of mine
