Update: Mods, please feel free to delete this thread. Due to a sketchy seller, I decided to pass on this bike.

Hey everyone, I have been searching online for an FZ6 to pick up in my area, and stumbled across a nice blue 2008 FZ6. I love the color, the low miles (around 5k), and the fact that it has the newer style instrument gauge cluster! He is even throwing in a free helmet! :)

I talked the seller down to $4000, which seemed like a good deal to me, but he then mentioned that it was dropped. He claims that it was dropped while the bike wasn't moving, but it still suffered some noticeable scrapes/damage. I tried to talk him down a bit more considering the slight rust on the handlebar tip (throttle side), but he is firm on the $4000.

I was wondering how much it would cost to replace/repair these damaged pieces? Should I pass on the deal and keep searching? I was quite shocked to find out that half the bikes I have emailed from Craigslist have been dropped. Is this bike hard to keep upright when standing still ?

Anyone know these part numbers? :/

i would pass it up, i bought my 07 with a tons and tons of extras, never dropped for $4000. mileage was 24000K. The damage doesnt seem that extensive, but for $4000 it doesn't seem that worthwhile.

Update: Please skip down to post number 10. Due to a sketchy seller, the bike discussed in the first 9 posts has been passed up on.

Here are some more pictures from other angels:

That bike was not dropped standing still. It obviously slide on the ground. There may be better deals out there, but out doesn't look that bad... Assuming the seller is not lieing about other stuff

There are WAY too many fz6's on the market than to worry about this one. It's not worth the risk.

Also, check for frame damage behind the matte plastic cover.

My advice is to move on....

In good condition maybe $4,000 but not dropped like that. My bike has been dropped twice - once by the original owner and the second time by me - after riding it for 3 years. Like most sports bikes it is somewhat top heavy and if you do not keep it balanced it can get very heavy quickly! I almost dropped it in the garage one time but fortunatly my almost new car was there to lean it up against. :-( Made me get over door dings.

Look carefully for damage you do not see. Turns out my fairing was cracked much more significantly than the owner told me when I bought it. He knew about it too! How do I know - there was glue on it where he tried to glue it back together.

Problem is, most bikes have been dropped at least once in the driveway or in the garage.

That's the thing OP, the rarity is a bike that has never been dropped. It's very, very common to drop a bike at least once.

This bike, however, slid on the ground. It looks like the guy's rear tire stepped out on him in a turn and he lowsided it at very low speed(like taking off from a stop sign).

It should be fine, but I wouldn't pay $4,000 for it. If you can talk him down to $3-3500 I'd buy it.

Thank you so much guys! I don't even have an FZ6 yet but I love this forum .

I decided to pass on the '08 FZ6 because you guys are right, it does indeed look like the bike slid. So right off the bat, the guy has lied, and to me, that's not worth continuing with the sale.

If you're anywhere near this guy, his bike is a better buy. It's also owned by a member of this forum.

Thank you for the link! I emailed the seller, but his response has me suspicious. In his Craigslist ad and thread, he states "As I have decided to move up to a FZ1, my beloved FZ6 is now for sale." However, we begain emailing and all of a sudden his story changed to "I've got a bad back, that's the reason I am selling it and selling it for $1,300 below KBB and NADA." So he went from wanting a bigger bike, to having back problems and needing to sell his bike .

good choice sounds fishy

I sold my pristine 2007 a couple months ago for $3800. Mine was mint with lots of upgrades and only 5k miles.

There are deals out there to be had, if you can be patient.

And for the record mine had never been down...

I keep hearing about great deals, but I guess I waited too long :(. The warmer weather is not only raising the temperature, but also bike prices too. I did find a 2007 FZ6 today about an hour from my house :). 4322 miles, has sliders, but was also dropped. Talked the guy down to $3000, but I'm not sure how much it'll cost to fix her up.
