'07+ fender brackets for R6 fork conversion

Alright guys, I have designed the brackets to fit the '07+ FZ6 fender on the '06 R6 forks (not sure about other years).

I have seen other posts about the R6 forks on the FZ6. I would like the ability to adjust the preload on the front etc...

1. How much better performance did you notice switching to the R6 forks?
2. What exactly do you buy to make it "fit" on an FZ6? How $much$?
3. How much time in terms of hours did this take and is their a "how-to" link for this procedure?

1. Night and day. The front end becomes more stable with less tendency to dive upon braking (especially if you're a heavy guy like me).
2. You need to procure 07+ brackets from RyanK or some other source. There seems to be a shortage for 04-06 FZ6 sharkbait brackets too.
3. It's actually pretty well laid out in this thread. I'd say if you're a mechanic, you can get it all done in about 2 hours. If you're not so inclined, like me, I'd say 4 hours or so. Most important thing is to have all the tools to get the job done. 19mm allen for your ratchet wrench to remove the axle, the center stand and 50+ lbs of weight for the tail to keep the front off the ground, 6mm, 8mm, 10mm allens for loosening the triples, brakes, 8mm, 10mm, 12mm sockets for your rachet to remove other things. It's all laid out in the thread above. The 19mm allen seems to be the hardest thing to find and can easily be replaced by a bolt and a few choice nuts. For me, bleeding the brakes was the hardest part.

Unless I'm missing something, the "06 R6" forks actually look like 06+ R6S forks. They should also be the same as 03-04 R6 forks. Many 05 R6's had inverted forks which were retained in the new body style of the 06 R6 but not in the introduction of the 06 R6S model.

I missed the "S". they are designed for hte '06 R6S forks that I have. I believe you're correct in that the '04-'06+ standard style forks are the same.

oso2k pretty much said it all, and included THE link for this swap!

1. performance is AWESOME!!! By far the best/most worthwhile mod you can do on this bike. No more brake dive! It sticks to the road much better and instills much more confidence.

2. Need new wheels spacers, brake caliper spacers, and fender adapters. The other thread will tell you where to get both spacers easiily and cheaply. the fender brackets are the toughie. The fender brackets are different for the '04-'06 FZ and the '07+ FZ. There are dwgs for both style brackets on the link that you can have made somewhere.

Another difference is that the '04-'06 FZ require the 4 piston brake calipers, which came stock on the '07 & newer FZ's. If you have an '07 or new bike, you don't need to change them, and can avoid having to bleed them.

3. If your compatent enough to remove your front wheel & reinstall it, then the install is a piece of cake. Slide the old forks out, slide the new ones in!

I just want clarification on the last post. I'm an SBN'er but that fork mod post is ridiculously old, long, and covers the last 6 model years. Way too much to sift through.

Anyway, since I have an '07, am I understanding correctly that all I need is the '06 R6S forks, spacers, and fender bracket? I don't need new triples or brakes or calipers, controls, etc.?

I'm trying to simplify the shopping list so I don't end up buying stuff I don't need. I know forks can usually be found on ebay, RyanK has the fender brackets, but who makes the spacers now?

Cool, thanks for the info! I see in another thread ant_mb bought a whole pile of caliper and wheel spacers from McMaster-Carr (?). Would those work on an '07?

I only made one batch of brackets. If you want some, I'll give you the dwgs and you can have them made.
