Best thing for restoring black on engine casing, frame, and plastics?

I like the stuff in a spray bottle that is called Aerospace 303 or just 303. It sprays on like ArmorAll but works much better in my opinion. Most auto or boat stores carry it. Also in Ace Hardware.

    New tires question

I recently bought a new set of Conti Motion tires for my 2009 FZ6. The tires are mounted correctly with the rotation arrows on the sidewalls in the correct direction. I noticed that the sipping on the rear tire run one way but the sipping on the front tire runs in the opposite direction. The...

    Front Axle Noise, Bearings?

Don't wait too long or this can happen. I really had no indication until the front brake gave out due to wheel wobble.

Could somebody tell me the Battery Secret?

I have used a thin, flat coffee stirring stick. I put a piece of double sided scotch tape on one end and stick the nut to it. That way you can maneuver it around and put some up pressure on the nut when trying to get the bolt started. I haven't tried it on an FZ6 but it has worked on other...

    Burning through front wheel bearings

I'm wondering if the counter bore on some wheels isn't too tight. The last set of bearings I installed went in really tight. I thought maybe too tight. Time will tell.

    Front Brake Issue

Final diagnosis: I pulled the front wheel off last night and looked at it today. The left front wheel bearing was totally gone. A couple of the ball bearings were out of the race and were riding against the middle spacer. The right bearing was in perfect shape. This caused the wheel to...

    Front Brake Issue

This is a 2009 with only 7,350 miles. I'm the second owner but it has never been down. Never been ridden real hard. Very little if any rain. I rebuilt the calipers thinking that was the problem. It wasn't. The bike is used as a weekend special mostly. Do you think it's possible that the...

    Front Brake Issue

I think you and FI nailed it with warped rotors. I lifted the front tire off the ground this evening and rotated it. Both sides appear to be off by at least 1/8 inch if not more. There is mucho drag on the high spots. After rotating by hand, I get no brake action at the lever but can pump it...

    Front Brake Issue

I'm still fighting a front brake issue. Last fall I was on a ride and my front brake lever suddenly went to the handlebar with no braking effect. That was scary! Over the winter I rebuilt the calipers, new pads, and put a new piston with seals in the master cylinder. Didn't touch the lines...

    Stuck oil filter

I got it off. I bought one of those three finger wrenches that tightens the harder you turn. It dented the can but it came off no problem. I tried one of the rubber strap types but couldn't get enough purchase. Thanks all.

    Stuck oil filter

Good suggestion. I will have to get a strap wrench. Any idea where they sell the right size?

    Stuck oil filter

My oil filter is stuck on. Must be rusted. Any tricks to getting it off? I've already dented it by squeezing it with a large pair of slip joint pliers. The plastic cap style filter wrench was a joke. The filter won't budge. I guess a hammer and chisel is next?

    Confused on model

The listings on BikeBandit.com mostly: Yamaha/Street/2009. Maybe they tag on all those color codes. I'll check it out again. I didn't know my FZ6 was a California model. As far as I know it was bought new in Illinois. Thanks

    Confused on model

I have a 2009 FZ6. My owners manual has FZS6Y(C) on the front cover. This doesn't seem to match any of the model numbers on parts vendor websites. How do I determine exactly which model I have?
