Just wondering how many forum members have life inusrance. As we all know, as motorcyclist, there is a great risk. Therefore, when I purchased my FZ6 14 months ago, I also purchased a $100K life insurance policy from State Farm. It was very reasonable, and my rates are locked in for 20 years. The amazing thing about the policy, riding a motorcycle had no bearing in terms of price. I hope other members have done the responsible thing, especially if you have a family.

I have the Army SGLI at $400K, and 4X my annual salary via work, and short term and long term disability. Even if you don't ride a motorcycle it is the smart thing to do for your loved ones. Also if you are married consider a policy for your spouse too. If they were to pass you my need to hire help for the kids, ie: more longer day care, house cleaning, etc.

I have enough to make her debt free and live on for quite some time. :D I'm worth more dead than alive!

My wife wouldn`t let me get anything below $1MIL... it's costing me a fortune monthly too... It was either that or give up motorcycles :Sport:

I bought a small policy with State Farm when I got m/c insurance too. The rate was very reasonable. But a quick calculation showed that $50k wouldn't do squat for my wife and daughter so we upped it to $2M. It's not just because I ride; I'm young and if something happens to me, that's a lot of my paychecks that my family will have to make up for.

Well stop crashing and she will sleep better at night. :justkidding:

I have SGLI through the Army. However I would have had it regardless of military or motorcycles. My brother died in an MVA at 23 and left my parents a lot of unpaid bills. Shoot, it was over $6000 just to bury him because he was 5 states away. That's $6000 in 1994 dollars. I learned a valuable lesson then. Hey younger SINK's! You don't have a wife/kids but...consider that your parents are expecting that you will be around to help them in their old age. A conservative policy for say...$50,000 on a 20yr old is cheap. It will cover your funeral and it can fund an interest bearing account for when your folks get to be elderly.

I'm not worth very much. :(

sportrider has life insurance through work, but it's not enough. I've tried to talk to him about it, but he doesn't seem to think it's a big deal. He says, if something happens to him, I will just have to get a job and start paying for daycare and let everything go repo. WTF!?!?!?!?!

This is a bigger problem that you and Danny need to discuss. My Mom was left with three kids at home and no job, money or husband when he died. We STRUGGLED hard! No widow with her kids needs to endure that EVER! Especially with the chances Danny takes daily (100+ mph) on the bike.

This is between the two of you though. It really hits home with me because I've lived with that and it sucked :( until Mom found a new Hubby.

I completely agree.....I have tried to talk to him, but he just doesn't want to listen. It really upsets me. My brother and my dad both, have tried to talk to him (they sell life insurance), but he gets mad.

He's not considering his kids well being. Come on Danny. Do it for the children!

Do up the whole thing and have it ready to sign. If he signs, give him back the keys to the bike. :D

I have 500,000 in a life policy. I actually got it when i turned 18. I wish they would have let me get it at 15 when i started riding on the street but the companies i talked too said i couldnt get a policy unless i was 18.

They said my parents could get a policy on me, i just couldnt do it by myself. It didnt make sense at the time...

Actually, I like the fact that I crashed twice... now I can tell her "pffff motorcycles are not dangerous! I crashed twice -actually three times in my life- and came out without a scratch!"
