How are the R6 mirrors working for you? Any updates?

Hey Joe, they are working well! Chris was dead on with everything he said. I will do a little write up with some pictures right now for those who want my final verdict for the mirrors.

Iv'e ridden probably about 1800 to 2000 miles with the R6 mirrors on my bike, and they have served me pretty darn well. The temperature these have been used in ranges from 25F to 95F and they never fog up or anything. I have ridden with these mirrors on highways, twisties, in the city, in the country and they preform very well with a few exceptions.

The R6 mirrors are lower and wider than the stock mirrors that come with the FZ6. This means a couple of things. You can see better behind you, less of your elbow, but they may be in danger of getting clipped by the clutch and brake lever.

When I say you can see behind you better, I mean if wearing the right clothing. Unfortunately these mirrors are still prone like the stock ones to have reduced visibility if wavy, loose, or big clothing is worn.

I have the stock levers so I can only guarantee that the STOCK levers will clear the mirrors. I don't see how shorty levers would leave less of a tolerance, but I don't know. Take a look at the pictures I've attached to see the small clearance between the levers and the mirrors when adjusted correctly. This means that it will be hard operate the levers when the handlebars are fully cranked, but the only time that I have found the handlebars being fully cranked is when stopped and backing the bike out of a tight place or into one.

Next is vibrations. The mirrors only vibrate if in the high RPM, or at low speeds in first gear. Similar to the stock ones, they are silky smooth on the highway.

A side note, or conspiracy rather. I have noticed when it is cold out that the windscreen on my bike vibrates; I've checked all the screws on it. It's never done that before the new mirrors and I am wondering if the reduced weight of the new mirrors causes it to vibrate? Anyone else have a windscreen vibration problem with the stock mirrors or R6 mirrors?

Anywho, something I am kind of disappointed with is the ability to fold them back like the stock mirrors. They have that option, but you have to loosen the bolt and springs tension to do it, otherwise they are stuck out. Loosening them would cause the mirrors to want to fold back in high speed riding I would think; I haven't tried it. Check out the pics to see... in one of them you can see plastic shards it rubs off if you try to fold them back when the spring is too tight.

Pros:
Far better visibility
Sportier look
Mounts to existing mirror holes

Cons:
Folding option is troublesome
Levers barely clear mirrors
Feels cheaper that stock mirrors
Boots don't fit exact (see pics)
Mirrors come in box with 4 pounds of shredded paper, beware.

All in all I think these mirrors are great deal. Definitely a worthwhile mod, a far improvement over the stock mirrors. There are a couple of minor flaws with the R6 mirrors but overall, I recommend them. :Flash:

Thanks for the update Chris, do you have stock bars or fz1 bars?

I have stock bars for now, but I just ordered a set of FZ6R bars. I'm hoping it reduces problems with my fingers going numb. My chiro says I have a slight case of carpal tunnel. I have no probs at work or at home but I have to shake out the wrists after 20 miles or so on the bike.

From what I've read/seen, the FZ1 bars are lower and closer to the tank, unless you mount them in a higher set of risers. The FZ6R bars should be the same height as the stock ones so I think they will still clear below the mirrors. The FZ6R bars have less sweep though so they'll get close to the mirror on a less sharp turn. Hmmm... Well, I'll have to check clearances before I take her out for a ride.

I had the FZ6R bars before. The pullback is right in the middle of the FZ1 and FZ6 bars. They are great if the stockers hurt your wrists and back. I switch between the FZ1 and FZ6R bars on occasion. I would imagine there will be more than enough clearence.

Cheap bar end mirrors of ebay are great. No body block. Adds width though so no good for the lane splitter

I'm riding with the stock 04 fz6n chrome mirrors and must say the view of my jacket is awesome, the view of whats actually behind me is non existent. Thinking some sort of bar end mirror or the latest of the Xj6 maybe.

When replacing the mirrors on my S2 I realized the throttle side is reverse thread!

Does anyone know is it 3/8" ? I need to order a left hand thread cap bolt now.

The bolt is metric and is 10mm. 3/8" is 9.5mm, so you might get away with it.

Cheap eBay Bar end mirrors. Be careful tightening them down. Doh!
quha4y8y.jpg

I was repositioning them to get a better view. Went to tighten it and 'crack'. Bummer.

So these were cast as opposed to CNC. I'll get some CNC ones. I didn't want to pay a lot in case I didn't like the naked look. Get what you pay for.

Update. New CNC mirrors. Very nice fit and finish.

The glass has a blue tint.

Just an update the color of the new mirrors faded within a few days in the sun. They're now a pale bronze color. I'd recommend the silver ones to anyone buying these, otherwise they're functioning well.

AHH! That's what I forgot to put as a option in the poll, was stock mirrors with spacers!

Yes, I think that the R6 mirrors eliminate a lot of that problem you are talking about as they are lower and further out, but whatever works.

Here are some pics of mine....

That looks pretty sexy... I might have to do that with mine. Are these about the same as yours minus the LED blinkers and arrows? Also, do they have the be DOT-approved for the road or no?

Those look fairly similar. The description says they will fit. Honesty I've heard bad things about the turn signal/mirror combos on eBay, but that's just me.

stock. they are pretty good imo, give an adequate view to my side and behind, if not ideal or perfect. they stick out sort of far so i fold the right one in when in traffic for lane splitting

when i got the bike someone had stuck on those little "wide view" mirrors in the corners of the stock. pretty useless on a bike imo, they just take up precious viewing space where they are stuck on! don't care for them much as i learned my lesson from applying those to a previous bike / scooter

I was expecting the mirror housings to be plastic but they're solid metal, well made and really sturdy. I'm sure they'll vibrate no more than the bars do which is the best you can ask for with an FZ6

Blue lens tint and slightly convex mirror which is just as well given they're so small. Very pleased.

Where did you buy those from?
