How are the R6 mirrors working for you? Any updates?
Hey Joe, they are working well! Chris was dead on with everything he said. I will do a little write up with some pictures right now for those who want my final verdict for the mirrors.
Iv'e ridden probably about 1800 to 2000 miles with the R6 mirrors on my bike, and they have served me pretty darn well. The temperature these have been used in ranges from 25F to 95F and they never fog up or anything. I have ridden with these mirrors on highways, twisties, in the city, in the country and they preform very well with a few exceptions.
The R6 mirrors are lower and wider than the stock mirrors that come with the FZ6. This means a couple of things. You can see better behind you, less of your elbow, but they may be in danger of getting clipped by the clutch and brake lever.
When I say you can see behind you better, I mean if wearing the right clothing. Unfortunately these mirrors are still prone like the stock ones to have reduced visibility if wavy, loose, or big clothing is worn.
I have the stock levers so I can only guarantee that the STOCK levers will clear the mirrors. I don't see how shorty levers would leave less of a tolerance, but I don't know. Take a look at the pictures I've attached to see the small clearance between the levers and the mirrors when adjusted correctly. This means that it will be hard operate the levers when the handlebars are fully cranked, but the only time that I have found the handlebars being fully cranked is when stopped and backing the bike out of a tight place or into one.
Next is vibrations. The mirrors only vibrate if in the high RPM, or at low speeds in first gear. Similar to the stock ones, they are silky smooth on the highway.
A side note, or conspiracy rather. I have noticed when it is cold out that the windscreen on my bike vibrates; I've checked all the screws on it. It's never done that before the new mirrors and I am wondering if the reduced weight of the new mirrors causes it to vibrate? Anyone else have a windscreen vibration problem with the stock mirrors or R6 mirrors?
Anywho, something I am kind of disappointed with is the ability to fold them back like the stock mirrors. They have that option, but you have to loosen the bolt and springs tension to do it, otherwise they are stuck out. Loosening them would cause the mirrors to want to fold back in high speed riding I would think; I haven't tried it. Check out the pics to see... in one of them you can see plastic shards it rubs off if you try to fold them back when the spring is too tight.
Pros:
Far better visibility
Sportier look
Mounts to existing mirror holes
Cons:
Folding option is troublesome
Levers barely clear mirrors
Feels cheaper that stock mirrors
Boots don't fit exact (see pics)
Mirrors come in box with 4 pounds of shredded paper, beware.
All in all I think these mirrors are great deal. Definitely a worthwhile mod, a far improvement over the stock mirrors. There are a couple of minor flaws with the R6 mirrors but overall, I recommend them. :Flash:
