survey of first sevice cost

The 600 mile service was free but being on 4900 miles my 6000 mile service is due soon. Question - does it need to be done by a Yamaha dealer for the warrantly to be valid? If not (Perryn note) there's a hell's angel (I kid you not) in Reading called Nij who charges half of what anyone else does. He used to service my old Fazer and always did a fantastic job, and quickly.
 
Please give me details. I believe tha that the servicing needs to be carried out by an authorised Yamaha dealer to remain valid. Steve or Danny tend to know all of these types of questions. I personally do not have any plans to sell my bike so Nij would certainly get my bussiness.

I usually drop the bike off and walk to work. Could give you a backy if it's too far for to walk. The "workshop" is an extension to his terraced house! Got something like 10 Harleys and Buells parked up at any one time - all his!

Thanks mate, I will defo give him a ring. Funny I grew up in Caversham and can't recall where Champion rd is. I will use twat nav.
 
12000+ miles and no dealer service yet. Been changing the oil regularly, pulled the plugs at 8800 miles and they looked fine so I put them back in, lubed all the cables week before last. So far the bike runs like a top. I guess I'll take it in during the winter to have some service done since my old boss in the military is a service tech at the dealership and I don't want to offend him or the dealership by doing most of the work myself.
 
I don't see how servicing you bike yourself would have any effect on your warranty, if you like make a file for your receipts of anything you buy for the bike including Oil filters that way if anything else if you go to sell your bike to a private party you can show them service records. going back to the warranty thing , if you take your cage to a lube shop for a oil change that doesnt void your factory warranty so I think you'll be OK servicing it yourself, as long as you're confident in doing it yourself. don't forget to go over all the fasteners on your bike, checking with a torque wrench. chain slack, check your brakes, tires, etc. remember an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. I've done all of my maintenance myself.

I think it's a UK thing. I don't believe having a bike serviced at a non- Yamaha dealership or doing it yourself voids the warranty. But, second hand buyers here will be looking for 'Full dealer service history'. Without it, the value would be dramatically reduced.

Thats good to know, I will certainly use him in the future. + keep my receipts. I was also right the Oracle. That is DANNY, would know the answer.
 
Just got it done yesterday, paid 225.00 CAD, parts were $35 and the rest labour. Now that I call a stealer. We canadians get ripped all the time.

No, you got ripped off....;) I didn't... So how does your butt feel:p... Should have done it yourself. All you need to do is change the oil & filter and check all the nuts and bolts for tightness... And no! It won't void your warranty to do it yourself....

Correct....however, keep your receipts for the parts. Without them, you will have no proof that you actually did the First Service, which is the most important service in the life of any bike/car. If you do have warranty issues, just pointing at your OEM or aftermarket filter as "proof" that you did perform a first service won't cut it.
Manufacturers do have "rights" as well, and they will exercise them. ;)

I'm not giving them all that money to change the oil and filter and torque a few bolts. Besides, they won't put the oil you want in without much added expense. :mad:

BTW, did you know they wanted to change me 1 hour of labor ($75) to install frame sliders? Two flippin' bolts??? Come on!!! When they come in, I'll pick them up and run with them. Un-freakin'-believable! :mad: :mad:

I do keep all my receipts... I HAVE to! I'm married to an accountant! :D

LOL... married to an accountant, eh? That's why you are so good at wheelin' & dealin'... Ironically, my girlfriend is a Yank (misplaced here in Canada, long story) and an accountant to boot... go figure (sorry for the bad pun)...:thumbup:
 
I got ripped off. Unfortunetely there is only one Yamaha dealer here on the island and he is a !@#$. Also the warranty is voided if I dont take it to a Yamaha dealer so even though the service was free I paid €120!!! for the oil and oil filter.

How do you know this (that warranty is voided)? Something's wrong, paying 120 Euros for something that shouldn't be over 10 Euros. Have you considered writing a complaint to Yamaha?
