Not exactly discovering America here, but getting 38mpg on my last tank made me wonder if I'm really burning that much fuel by keeping rpm's around 7-8k at the lowest.
Last Saturday, my wife joined me on a 122 mile ride (2-up) and I kept the rpm's way low.. 4-5k most of the time. Average fuel economy... 44mpg. I'm sure it'd be another 2-3mpg higher if I was riding solo and without loaded top box.
So if you're going for best fuel eco, keep those revs down :)

After 10 fill ups I finally had my best MPG = 39.6. I got about 160 miles on this tank, with most of that highway miles. Still sucks!

Anybody else here use fuelly? I would like to compare and find out why my mpg is so crappy. Probably because of my aggressive riding. :D
 
there are lots of threads on MPG.
15 litres last me 3 days. I have a twenty mile commute on fantastic roads.
I ride at 150 - 190 kph 95% of the journey.

At the track...about 120km's out of a tank.

On a decent Sports Ride...about 180km's a tank.

Touring.....about 240km's a tank

Touring 2 up...about 210km's a tank.

In city/expressway type riding, I consistently see 45-50mpg. I shift at around 6K, 7K at the latest. Even if I'm on it hard up to those RPM's, I still get the same mileage numbers. If I get on it harder(lots of heavy throttle), and go a little higher in RPM's, the gas gauge bars go away very quickly. lol Now my commute is winding roads and freeway, so it'll be interesting to see what happens to my mileage. On the twisties, it should be great, but the freeway will probably cancel out the good numbers.

I've been getting 55-57 mpg(!) all summer long. Now that it has cooled off, my last tank was ~ 52 mpg. I ride pretty easy for the most part, typicaly keeping revs at 4-5k rpms and speeds in the 40-60 mph range. The roads are open so not a lot of stops/idling, but it is hilly. I don't let it idle for very long before heading out (I ride slow until it's fully warmed up). I use 87 octane E10 fuel, Yamalube non-synthetic 10W-40 oil, and run the tires at standard pressure. Weight with gear is about 185lbs.

The Yamaha-rated 40 MPG must assume the bike is being "properly" ridden :rockon:
 
sucks i get 37-39 on my regualar weekday rides, they are short trips to school and work and i keep it under 6 grand most of the time.

weekend i do 60-70 miles in the twisties in the 7-8 grand range and get 40-44mpg.

backwards as hell but i think it has to do with the short trip factor.:(

Yep, it's more about long rides even at higher rpm will provide better mpg.

When I had my 07 I could ride it hard, 7k on up and still get 41-43. Never rode it mellow enough to get better mpg as that takes all the fun out of it.

Now my FZ1 can get low 40's on long rides but really drinks the fuel when playing hard (28-35mpg) but the grin factor is bigger :rolleyes:
 
For me, it's really not about the MPG, it's about my safety. Since I ride in traffic, I like to make sure I am in the correct powerband just in case I need to throttle out. That's why you will find me cruising at 7-8k rpm.
 
I get about 40 mpg. I haven't tried to calculate what I get on longer trips versus normal commuting.

Not at all Azz. I thought that too.

The higher the revs, well, you're going to use more fuel.

Ride sedately if fuel $ is an issue.

Mind you, that would be soooooo boring ;)

You can work out the conversions & figures on this one for yourself :thumbup: But here are the averages I had on the Fizzer , --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I only run Premium fuel and average around the 280k's in 16 litres , i have been as low as 180k's on 17 litres and as high as 392k's on 18.34 litres

Prob very similar to Mike, but now he's changed the gearing, he says the armchair chomps through the gas now

Man last time i checked my MPG it was like 32MPG, :(

I usually just ride short trips blasting around to school and work in the citiy hitting a million stop lights. I usually ride anywhere from 4500-8000 rpms. I'd really like to do a trip on it sometime and see what kind of fuel economy i can really get out of it.
 
So I get about 38 - 40 mpg, but as my truck only gets geez i dont know 13 - 14 mpg any thing is better.

ride for fun, tank of gas lasts long enough for me to have a blast
