High RPM riding = mileage killer

I have been getting about 42-48 mpg unless I have to get gas that has that horrible ethanol crap in it, then I get about 32-38 mpg! There is only two places around here that doesnt have that crap in the gas and I have been known to ride around to different stations until I find one with good, ethanol-free gas to use.

Best one I got was just over 300 km on one tank and I still had a few liters on the reservoir.

But now it has dropped to about 250 km untili hit the reservoir.

So I get about 38 - 40 mpg, but as my truck only gets geez i dont know 13 - 14 mpg any thing is better.

Completely agree. My car gets 20mpg in my normal hwy/city mix and my driving style, and the bike gets about 40.

That savings is just a plus though, it's a ton more fun to ride.

So Ethanol could be the culprit in low mileage? I live in big city Chicago and I think most pumps have them in it. That could explain the low mpg. Anyone uses Ethanol stuff and get good mileage?

Oh god yes, that stuff is NASTY!

Ethanol boosts the octane rating of a fuel, so if they have a 91 octane with ethanol, it might only be a 85 octane fuel. They can start off with a worse grade fuel and boost the rating with the ethanol.

From my short research, I've found out that there's only about 1100 gas stations in the U.S. that does not mix Ethanol w gasoline. And pretty much of those are not in big cities. I guess I'm stuck with evil Ethanol.

You can usually avoid the ethanol by buying premium grade fuels - at least in Canada anyway.

No such thing as gas without ethanol around here.

I don't see why you'd make that big of a deal out of it though? Does the FZ6 actually have a plastic gas tank with a metal shell or something?

I have gotten as much as 64 mpg and the worst I have ever gotten was 38 mpg. That was one night about a week ago. I was able to run over 100 mph for for about 15 minutes or so. (Considering the parameters I think that was pretty phenomenal mileage)
Every bike is different, every rider is different, and I think every tank of gas is different.

I absolutely refuse to believe that. How exactly are you guys calculating mpg? I saved all my receipts and input info into Fuelly. Can somebody start using Fuelly too so I can have some standards to compare to?

I did goof. I went back and corrected it. I wrote that my worst was 48. I should have said 38. Sorry.
(The key to good mpg is just not to wind it up on every gear change)
