Australian Battered Potatoes?!

Got my Vegemite a few days ago. They actually bounced it to me from Singapore!

Took a taste when it arrived and it tasted similar to the brewers yeast our mom used to give us. Of course that's what it basically is and I have to say if I wasn't brought up on the taste it would be a strange experience but I knew the flavor right away!

So I take "Food For Life" cinnamon raisin bread. It's a killer, flourless, sprouted grain, organic bread and toast it. Spread some of the Vegemite on with 2 slices of Jarlsburg cheese and some Veganaise, (eggless mayo).

I have to say it's a genius idea. What a flavor! I'm hooked and really like it! Wanted seconds but I'm out of bread. It tastes good right off the spoon but remember I grew up with brewers yeast. When my mom first gave it to us we weren't real happy about it but we trusted her because this was the same lady that brought us the most killer bread puddings in the world!

Vegemite is a stroke of genius!
Yes I can see where it would be an acquired taste for those that have never tasted yeast. I took a taste on a spoon this morning and it sort of reminded me of that faint beer after taste. Well...of course it would! Haha!

Now, where can I find a croc to wrestle?!:rockon:

Woohoo! You see a nation full of Aussies cant be wrong....the English dont get it! They think we are aliens for eating vegemite!!! So be it, more for us...

I just got home from work, and am indulging in my favourite treat....Burnt crumpets, with heaps of butter (not margarine, cause that's a "pretender"), a smidge of vegemite "mixed" into the butter, with a slice of cheese melted on top...preferably colby cheese, in my case....bloody beautiful!

:cheer: :cheer: :cheer: Cliff has found a winner , we told you it was the stuff of champions :D Puts lead in the pencil too  ;)

Try it with a real strong & bitey cheese , you'll love it even more mate or stir a teaspoon full into your next bolognese sauce for a flavour sensation

Oh yeah and I love to cook so I'll find some other uses for it. Lisa said if you like it, it's gonna cost us to get it all the way from Singapore. I jokingly said to her, "I got connections in Australia!, Don't worry 'bout it" in my best Jersey accent. Haha!

Good stuff! Thank you my Aussie brothers and sisters for the inspiration to try this stuff. It's very rewarding to be able to share cultural experiences, food and such.
This is a great forum!

Our pleasure Cliff , just let me know if you need me to hook you up with more stock

Don't forget to baste your kangaroo roast with vegemite too, then cook it in the kettle barbie with something extra for smoking (no, not weed:rolleyes:), although redgum might be a bit hard for you to find:D.

We have lots of hickory and mesquite!
I'm doing some pork ribs right now and might mix some of the Vegemite with the last glazing of some really good barbie sauce.

I'm having trouble finding a kangaroo......Of course If I did find one I'd make it a pet! Haha!

Cliff, you are now an honorary Aussie :aus: :aus: :aus:

I add a teaspoon of vegemite if I'm making bolognese sauce, brown gravy etc.

Yum.......

Just don't call it Ciril. It's likely to get upset, and nobody wants that:eek:.:D

I usually add a smidge to my BBQ sauce when doing a meatloaf as well. (and no, I don't mean singing Bat out of Hell):BLAA:
