I might be needing a new chain.

:confused:I'm not bashing Maxima Chain Wax, but ever since I started using it I've had nothing but problems with my chain. I think one of the ingredients must be sand magnet because it's next to impossible to keep the chain clean. now I have to spots that bind (perma kink) nothing seems to be able to free up the chain I've tried WD-40, PB blaster, Open and Shut, camping fuel, diesel and nothing works it may quiet it down for a few days but then the noise comes back even though the chain is plenty lubed. I guess some sand must have worked it's way inside the chain. funny I never had this problem with my dirt bikes. the chain still looks good too the rollers turn freely its just two links wanna bind. any suggestions I haven't already tried. if I have to get a chain breaker I'm going to just get a new chain while this one is off. (and sprockets) :confused:
 
Have you tried taking it off the bike and soaking it in kerosene over night? This has worked on my dual sport and is recommended by Suzuki. Don't be afraid to give it a good scrubbing with a wire brush as well, just be mindful of the o-rings.:thumbup:

street bike chains are rivited I'd have to break the chain and buy a new master link. otherwise I would.
 
Hmmm.....I use the same wax to lube my chain, but haven't noticed any irregularlties. However, I may try something different when my can empties out.
 
i have been using the SX Chain wax for about 3 years and i have been pleased, only thing i would like better is if it was more visible on the chain.
 
Out of curiosity:

1) How many miles on the chain?
2) What's your policy for clean/scrub frequency?
3) What's your policy for lube frequency?

Hopefully you are not blasting the chain directly with wd-40 or the like. The solvent in the WD-40 will get in behind the O-rings and destroy the sealed lubicant in chain. This would most certainly cause a chain to bind and or kink.

I believe he used a whole can.
 
Oh thanks.... Just what I need to read, now I'll be paranoid about my chain because I use Maxima Chain Wax. :o

OK now for my stupid thought. Is it possible that one or more o-rings in the chain failed? I really don't think it is because of the chain wax.

This could put an end to the question whether or WD-40 is bad. But then the question would be whether he used a whole can instead of half.:)

I guess I just pictured you rolling your eyes while you said it or something.

You really want my suggestion? Go -1/+2 and buy a new chain :D I'd be curious to see what the new top speed would be...he'd definitly get there faster.

oh.....no I didn't. I was just saying he used a whole can lol

I told him to just go buy a new chain, but I don't think he's going to.

ok....I may be stupid, but I KNOW your post has nothing to do with this thread at all. :thumbup:
 
Normally I clean the chain once a week if I'm riding it daily. I have 13200 miles on the chain (still the stock) I've always used WD-40 to clean chains. I've never had a problem with it. I hold a rag under the chain and soak it and scrub all the dirt and grim off it witha rag or/and an old tooth brush. then use a lube to coat the chain. I just bought a chain breaker today so a new chain and sprockets is in the near future.
