That's all I know about it, really! I was down at AF1 Racing today, they ran the Aprilia RSVR with a supercharger and methonal. They hit "only" 175.4 mph. They would have gone faster but the rear tire spun the whole way! They were gunning for 200 mph+.

Anywho...they thought of me when the FZ6 with a turbo blew. They were told by the owner the turbo was a bolt on kit.

I've no idea if they took any photos. Micah did mention that he took 1,253 photos and his girl friend took about 1,000 photos...maybe one is the FZ?

Actually Jamie, quite streetable... for at least 12 seconds when it blows the seals, gaskets and the crank fails. So you learn a lesson and realize you need to lower the compression in the bike and try again.

I enquired about putting a turbo on my FZ6, but got told it would cost in excess of $10000 to do properly!!!

So tell us the gory detail, i am especially interested, as i am just about to finally push the go button on doing the Big Bore kit, and R6 cams on mine....

Caught... an early April fools. Actually it isn't mine. This is from an old thread over at S B N in the FZ6 forum. A guy really did build this but the thread ends before he posted the numbers from both the drag strip or the dyno machine. The pic actually depicts the new intake he created for getting the turbo (not seen) to spool up faster. I think he had about $1200 into the project along with a lot of his time and effort.

How I'd wished he had put up numbers, videos etc of this thing in action. Before the modding, he was only putting up 7.7 at the (1/8th mile) strip. We still don't know what the end result is or if he ever put the bike on the track.

Here's what he did use in the event you want to explore it for real!

it is a garret gt1548 one of there smallest turbos the wastegat actuator is 8 psi factory the turbo is good at its max efficiency to 15ish psi our bikes fall on the turbine maps pretty well its a good match the power comes in nice and steady the front wheel definatly gets light all the way through 2nd into third.

Apparently you need to upgrade lots of other things to make this mod work properly...ignition module, etc, etc...

You have to do lots things to the engine before you can take true advantage of the turbo and not blow up your engine. Most naturally aspired engines are not designed to take the abuse you would get from forcing the air into the cylinders in amounts that actually matters for the performance. So, by the time you do everything “right,” you end up changing over pretty much everything on your engine “and” your transmission (an overlooked item by many who just starts on this adventure without knowing much about forced induction engines), which is why I am not surprised with the high price tag for such venture. I have not done such work on motorcycles, but, been around (and owned/raced) plenty cages with turbo engines. On occasion, I am asked by folks who would like to do that kind of modifications to their naturally aspired engines who knew about my past cars and my answer is usually, “start with a correct type of engine” because by time you are done, you would have spend much more than you would by starting with the correct engine type.
Of course doing such thing does have its “I have done the impossible” feeling when you are done at the end, but, you pay dearly for it.
