Highway RPM

Motorcycle consumer news quoted 4750rpm at actual 65mph on the 2007 model. Seems a little on the low side since my Ninja 500 is at 5500rpm at indicated 65mph (actual probably 60mph) and the FZ has a peakier engine. What rpm do you guys run on the highway? Any difference in gearing between 2007+ models or older? Rider magazine measured the GSX650F at 5000rpm at 60mph and I thought that bike would be lower than the FZ6.

Well, it is just for curiosity...obviously, it matters more how the engine sounds, how much vibration is felt through the pegs, mirrors and handlebars, etc...Like I said, the number in the article seemed low which is why I ask

OK, this can be a real can of worms as the gearing from one bike to another can be vastly different making the steady state rpm at any specified speed quite different. At 60mph in 4th gear I am pulling right at 6,000rpm and getting ready to hit fifth however, if I go down to the 15T front sprocket this will go up to just under 6,400rpm in the same gear and at the same speed. I generally cruise right around 80mph on the slab and I am running around 7,000 to 7,200rpm. Just a guess based on ratios but the FZ6 in 6th gear at a true 65mph should be roughly 5,200 rpm but I am never there to know this to be fact.

Just a thought: good boots= no peg vibration. bad boots, shoes= feet go to sleep on a long run.
 
I know...this is why I mostly ride in my Joe Rockets boots. So, stock, is about 5200rpm at 65mph?
