I'm really digging the Jetta I rented! From the integrated Key-FOB to the Transmission, its just different. It is a 08 and has 36,000 miles and runs great! The fit is nice, the steering is tight and easy and it just feels like a new car. It's 2 years old and I'm sure has had the hell beaten out of it for at least 30,000 mile! I know I beat the **** out of a rental. So far I'm impressed with it. I may take a long look at the VW line.

I highly recommend the VR6 engine and a full on manual (but a DSG if you must).

Well the car came out of the shop a few weeks ago and I posted it up for sale. I sold it today and bought another Chevy truck. I had the opportunity to buy a really nice Dodge for a little of nothing, but decided against it on a friends advice.
Anyway I bought a 2000 Chevy Silverado regular cab 4x4. It has the 4.3 V6 and a manual tranny. It'll make a nice compliment to my 2008 silverado 4 door 4x4, and hopefully get better gas millage.

The 08 has a short bed and requires me to leave the tailgate down if I haul it in the bed. The 00 has a long bed so it should fit in there great along with my ramps. Time will tell though.
I'm putting the new truck in the shop tomorrow. You never know how the previous owner took care of it so I'm having all the fluids changed(oil, rear end, front end, transfer case, clutch, and tranny).
The 4.3 is a good motor but don't expect much for gas mileage. I had one in my S10 and barely got 16 mpg or so.

A superior vehicle priced at or below the competition will succeed. An inferior product priced higher than the competition will fail every time.
As a side note, as an adult I (and my wife) have owned three Nissan's, three Toyota's, an Acura, a Mazda, and a Mitsubishi. I would not buy an American car until three years ago when the deal on an F-150 lease was too good to pass up ($185 per month for 24 months with $900 down). I have to admit... it was as reliable and comfortable as any of the Japanese cars. I give them credit for not taking the Obama-bait. After I turned in my Ford, I purchased an Acura MDX. Great SUV, but I sure miss my truck!

I inherited a 30 year old Japanese 2 cylinder diesel tractor.... it runs just fine. Ugly, but everything works. I've replaced 3 of the 4 original inner tubes, shear pins in the steering linkage, cleaned all the filters, and had to poke all the debris out from between the radiator fins so it would quit overheating. New battery, and cables. New fan belt.
No reason to look for anything better.
