Turn signals with the headlights?

I don't think anyone has ever tried it,
Today at work I saw a BMW modded to flash its headlight on one side as a turning signal. It was a really bright turn signal, we all know that BMW was there and it was going to turn.

Since the FZ6 has two lights too, I thought it would be awesome to make one side blink with the blinkers.
I don't really care if it's legal or not, I would keep my orange turn signals and at least one headlight on anyway. Also don't care if it kills my headlight, I am using the cheap blue tinted ebay ones and I have enough stock.

The only problem I have encountered is, I have no idea how to do that.
If I didn't leave the high beam on I could surely just connect the high beam side to its turn signal side, but that wouldn't solve the problem.
I want this mod on both sides, and I want both low and high beam on, until I use the turn signals, in which case one of the headlight blinks.

I hope you understood me, my English is terrible, and that someone has enough creativity to figure it out.

It would essentially be running the headlights as running turn signals then wouldn't it? Should be able to adapt boneman's relay writeup to make it work.

You could probably just run the headlights in parallel with the turn signals if you have them as running lights already, but the current drop might make them too dim. The best way I'd think would be some relay setup and make them their own circuit; you might need another flasher unit wired in...I'm really tired and headed to bed though so I might not be thinking straight.

You don't think someone could mistake it for you flashing them out of a junction.

Not at all sure what having extra flashing stuff at the front will do to keep you safe, think it may actually compromise your safety.

Sounds highly illegal........I believe it's a pretty universal law that turn signals must be amber in the front and amber or red in the back...... the heat shock would also greatly shorten the lifespan of your headlight bulbs.

This is what I was thinking. "Flashing" headlights is often a signal that your giving way to someone else. This could be pretty deadly on the road. That being said most BMW riders spend more time polishing than riding so its not such a huge issue for them

I'd try the pod lights and leave the headlights alone. We've got many good threads on creating turn signals in the pods here.

You will need two relays. If you have already done the two head light mod, the contacts of the relays would 'make' the wire going to the bulb filaments..... the coil would draw it's power from the turn signal wire, so the relay 'opens' when the signal flashes. Obviously, the right headlight needs to draw it's signal from the right turn signal circuit, and the left from the left.

I agree..... here in the US someone would take exception to this excercise.... that person would have the authority to issue tickets.

I didn't think about the 'flashing my headlight as a signal' issue. I will look into the pod lights, they sound like a way better idea.

Yeah I'd stay FAR AWAY from making your headlights into turn singals! That just sounds like really a bad idea. The closest thing I've seen are modulating headlights during the daytime.

I'm 99.9% sure that would be very illegal, not to mention all the legal issues you'd run ito if you ever got into an accident with those!

Cagers are confused and distracted enough as it is these days, why give them something else to try and figure out?!

Go the pod light route with some nice, bright amber LEDs! It will look stunning!
