I use Photobucket to host all my pics for all sorts of things. I logged in today to upload some mod pics and discovered they had suddenly lowered the storage space we get to just 500mb! I had about 800mb. Had to delete loads of photos (they're all on two PCs at home anyway) and now I'm going to have to make several accounts to split up all my images. Grrr.:spank:

It used to be the best free one around. I looked at all the competition a year or so ago. You get bulk upload, 1mb max image size, the ability to link directly to the images and it used to be unlimited/huge storage too. :(

Actually, I think I'll just go back to using ImageShack. They offer you more, including software to upload files. The only reason I quit was the fact that I had to use tags instead of albums and that annoyed me!

Flickr lowered theirs too. I had a mess of photos up there all visible and suddenly I am over my limit and need to PAY to have the remaining photos made visible to the public. I'm deleting ALL of them and removing my account.

Pretty damned low of them... almost an illegal bait and switch but what would you sue for? You can't get money back from FREE, eh? :rof:

that does suck to hear tho, i hate it when random computer stuff gives you yet ANOTHER chore to do in your day.
 
I've had a pay account on Photobucket for years. I love it. I haven't used the free service since 04' so I can't comment on that.
 
Odd.. as storage devices get cheaper they start lowering limits. I suppose however that there are more user than ever before so that might be one reason. Can you upgrade your account to allow more for a fair price?

I don't recall seeing any ads whatsoever on the shutterfly website. Photos load pretty fast, even when coming from my 8mp Canon Digital SLR.

Shutterfly does send the occasional email with offers for photo calendars, and digital prints. I might get 1-2 emails from Shutterfly per month, it's not bad at all.

They have made a couple changes I don't like, mainly on the look of the site and the way photos upload to albums. If you are not careful they sort of get dumped into a general bucket and it takes a bit of searching to find them. I orginally got the account so that I could bulk upload with an FTP and then auto-generate the HTML/IMG code for large publishing. (Used to photograph bands in Chicago)

I've used a flickr pro account for about 3 years now. There is a free account also but it has limits on bandwidth and storage.

Thanks for all the comments and info guys. I'm glad I'm not the only one who gets annoyed with stuff that's popular and free just suddenly deciding to charge people for what they used to get for free. :eek:

Oh yeah, thought I'd add that I haven't seen an Internet ad for years after installing Adblock on every computer I use! Firefox of course! I don't see the point in wasting my bandwidth and time downloading ads that irritate/distract me. :rockon:

Flickr and tinypic seem to have their limitations too now. Imageshack doesn't, except I'm not sure about linking straight to images. Uploading images is a hell of a lot easier than Photobucket, I just miss my albums within albums!

This is kind of a test below. :)

Well I'm not loving what happens when you copy and paste their code. Still better than Photobucket though. I won't have to use EasyThumbnail to make thumbnail images every time now.

Well that's annoying, you can link directly to images, but each one has a random number or summat put in front of it. You can't just change the filename at the end. Looks like ImageShack is gay in some ways too! :D I really liked the logical way that Photobucket shared and stored files using folders as I do at home.

PS, sorry I'm kinda using this to test image embedding, we need a test/messing around forum on here for newbies etc.
