So I'm out today and I'm turning right onto a road. The traffic is flowing so I have to merge in with them. so I'm rolling while looking left eying up where I'm merging in and I look right to see a cinder block in the middle of the road - and I'm heading RIGHT for it.

I pulled an evasive maneuver of sorts and somehow managed to scratch the underside of my center stand. I'm lucky I saw the block when I did - a split second later and I'd be sprawled on the pavement in the pieces of my wrecked fazer.

What I should have done? Stopped, looked left, and THEN merged. But it is a road I ride daily and am used to rolling while checking the left side for cars. I supposed I'll be approaching this turn differently in the future.

God only knows though how I managed not to plow into the cinder block, and only rode away with a scratch on the center stand.

So heads up y'all on the damned cinder blocks laying around in the middle of the road - they'll creep up on you. I guess I learned my lesson today.

i had a situation like that not too long ago. except i was on a pretty wide opened road. i thought i looked far enough ahead. i looked left to get over. i looked back just in time to see that i missed a nice sized chunk of rubber in the road by inches. scared the poo out of me. i was much more attentive for the rest of that ride. oh, and it was going 75-80 by the odometer (speed limit was 70). it would not have been a pretty site.

No block but I picked up an Estwing hammer in the middle of the road Saturday. :D

Glad you missed it and it didn't ruin your day.

Good job on the not hitting it. I have missed stuff too. Its scary.

cinder block WOW I'm glad to hear you came away unscathed from that .I have had my fare share of close calls with road hazzards on two different ocations I have had cars in front of me kick up hunks of retread and they have hit me with out any accident but still its a nightmare when it happens

Even though I have no idea what a cinder block is,lol,I am glad you missed it

I've missed stuff and I've hit stuff....I'm always concerned about this on the highway...on the twisty stuff I'm constantly paying attention so I'm ready for it.

Not sure what you could have done differently but you missed it so....

A few of the passes I ride have rock slide warning signs all over. I know I've dodged a few large rocks in my riding. Kinda scary huh?

These are about 8"x8"x16" so they are significant in size. Hitting one would be tough to make it through on two wheels. Very lucky guy!

back in 1991 I hit a cinder block someone had put in a brown paper bag with my Toyota mini truck while out cruising on a saturday night.it allmost stopped my little truck in it's tracks as I tried to center the bag.I was lucky it did'nt bust my oil pan.you are super lucky you dodged it!!!

It must of fell off a truck and I can't believe no one stopped to at least remove it from the road. I know a cop car had to pass by there and as usual just ignored it.
