First, hi everyone.

Well I kinda need some advice with picking out my first bike.
Hopefuly I'll get my licence next month.
I've been looking at different bikes one of these is the FZ6-N S2.
So basicly, would you recommend this bike as a first bike?
Or is it a bit too powerful.
Just for the record I'm taking my licence in Denmark on a 500cc bike.

Where in DK are you located?

The Fizzer were my first owned bike, - so it can be done :)
I would not consider the Fiz to be a "beginners Bike", but I don't think it's a bad choice either.
It's regulative easy to drive, and quite forgiving.
Make sure you get the ABS fitted model!
 
Well I'm living in Copenhagen, but I'm from your side of "Store Bælt".
I will be driving it around town alot, any experience with that?
With the line 4 engine it isnt too much of a hazle, having to keep up the revs while driving around town?
And yea if im buying it with ABS, I would get the regular FZ6-N but I don't think it comes with ABS.

There are a lot of members who have gotten the FZ as their first bike, and many others as their 2nd, 3rd, or whatever.

The only thing I like to add is that since you are a new rider, buying a brand new bike will most likely suffer some damage. The bike may tip over, you might have a slow spill, etc. It's a learning process and accidents will happen. Even the most experienced riders will have a brain fart and the bike will get damaged in some form of another. Just check out our "Hall of Shame" threads. We have some beauties, including myself:(.

Buying a used bike, the damage is a lot more forgiving.

But if you buy the FZ, most likely you will never have to trade up to a larger bike, because it's a great intermediate bike that can do it all. It could possibly be the only bike you will ever need to buy.

Yeah, what he said!

If you can find one used, bonus! Make sure you sit on it and find it comfortable, and don't just buy it for looks. I know of a few people who chose a bad-fitting bike as their first and didn't enjoy it as much as they could have.

When I got mine, I was living in Frederiksberg, - did daily trips to Amager, - had no rev issues what so ever.
Those nice roads in the forest near Farum are a great thrill :)
Thats one of the great things about the fiz,- it has enough tourge to run at low revs as well (not compared to a FZ1, but still).
 
I bought my fz a month after passing my test 18 months ago and have enjoyed every mile on it.Its happy too plod along in sixth gear at 30mph but also knock it down a couple of gears give it the beans and you are well and truly away at break neck speed. so what I am trying to say is treat it will upmost respect cos if you dont it will bite you on the a$$ and leave you sitting on the tarmach.

Warning! The bike is not happy going 30mph in 6th gear, it's dangerous for the rider and not good for the bike. Heck, I"m still in 1st gear at 30mph.
 
I WISH the FZ would have been my first bike because then I wouldnt have bought that dumb Harley! The FZ is actually my fourth bike, a CBR, a Shawdow and the hog rounding out past bikes. I dont think you will be disapointed with the power of the FZ, just treat her with respect and you two will get along 'jes fine! The clutch does take some getting used to though, a few miles and you will be a pro! Have fun, make sure its comfy and it feels right. Welcome to the forum!

It was and is my first and only motorcycle. Bought it last summer. First time I was ever on a motorized bike, not even a dirtbike before the FZ. Haven't gone down yet after almost 5k miles, knock on wood. The power curve rises exponentially after about 6-7k RPMS. If you keep it under 6 or so the bike is very controllable. A bit jumpy in first gear. But if you can resist the tempation to rev it higher, it is not bad. And that's a big IF ;)
 
Aren't these insanely expensive in DK? I recall someone saying that they cost as much as a family car in the US. If that was true, I'd definitely advocate for getting something cheap for the first bike. At least around here, there is a huge market for "beginner" bikes that have had multiple owners. You can keep them for a year, but a few thousand miles (or in your case, kms) on it, and sell it for the same price.

Not only are you likely to drop your first bike as VR suggested, but you may not really know what you want out of a bike yet. If you got a cheap learner bike, you could get some saddle time without big investment and then determine what things about a bike really turned you on. Although most of us on this forum would assert that the FZ6 is so versatile that is a good fit for just about any use you may have.

It's also possible that you may determine riding isn't for you once you start riding. It may be easier to make a decision about finding a different hobby if you hadn't sunk a huge amount of money into it already.
 
08 fz6 was first experience ever on a motorized two wheel vehicle. I'm a chugger, so I keep it low (don't know about 6th for 30 though...) and it's a puppy under 7 or so. After that it'll snap yer neck... Pet the dog, don't tease the dog, it'll bite you. Have fun and take it slow at first. The clutch is demanding, but nothing wrong with it. I love it! Have fun, be safe.

Well yes the model I'm looking at FZ6N S2 is about $18700 for a new 2009, and around $12700 for a used 2007. So I guess they are pretty expensive for a first bike.

Someone mentioned the SV650 and I have been looking at that one aswell. But lets face it the FZ6 is just prettier, in my opinion atleast. But the V2 engine of the SV650 might be more forgiving for a first time rider.

Other bikes I have been looking at includes Kawasakis ER6 N and F and Honda CB600 Hornet, but that one is a tad too expensive.

You have to keep in mind that a family car (midrange) here in Denmark would cost twice as much as a FZ6, - 30-40k us$ .....
So as a vehicle bought in Denmark its not that expensive .....
