how fast???

soo... i might be buying a givi v46 case.. very excited.. but some questions... not that im looking to be doing 150 mpg, but if the need arises, how well will the case fair???? i mean how solid are these things. whats the weight capacity, whats the speed limit..

i roughly do about 80-90 on the highway. i dont need a lecture so thanks anyways, i pay very good atention to things and take my time when i need to.. but how fast can i expect to be able to go. i was planning some moto-camping journeys to upper main and nh and vt.. possibly canada.. and those highways are some of the best to speed on. :thumbup:

My Girlfriend has the Kappa luggage mounted on a Givi rack, both paniers and top box, and they use the same securing mechanism.

They are rated at 20kg each, and she regularly goes over the tonne with them fitted and has had no problems whatsoever, they are very well secured to the bike.

I've done extended 80-90 mph trips(300+ and a couple 700+ mile) with my E52, and it performs great. I'm sure the smaller case would do just the same. The mounting is the same so I don't see why it wouldn't.

damn english and my having to read it like 4 times to get it.. thanks though good info. i was hoping someone would tell me 100 would be ok. i really dont plan on doing it that much, but there is maine with its long, flat, no cops, all tree's highways and i ended up with a go-pro hero wide angle camera for the bike, and i plan on bringing a sony mini-dvd camcorder and a canon digi cam. i figiured i could just get a whole lot of mem-cards for the cam's and not use the mini-dvd's. i have a cool camping trip planned for the spring. should look awesome on video.

I've done an indicated 125 mph (maybe a little more once but can look at the speedo at times like that) a few times with my e450 which about the same size as the V46 and a little less sturdy. Usually only short duration (passing) but no issues with the case at all while doing it.

Edit - on your other Q's - my case is big enough for 4-day trips when coupled with a 12L tankbag and I don't pack light. Theft-wise they'd have to break or remove the rack to get it off and I'd expect them to wreck the case at the same time so I don't think it's much risk.

It will for me. I used it along with a duffle bag for last years Deals Gap trip. I was gone for a total of 5 days and it handled everythign great. I even packed my laptop!

Security wise, all the locking components are metal on metal and concealed when locked, the only security concern I can see is that the lower metal mounting lugs on the frame slide into two plastic slots on the case, there is no metal reinforcement on the Kappa luggage. However, the Givi may be different.

Anyway, my girlfriend leaves her bike parked up all day every day in a multi-storey carpark in the middle of one of the UKs largest cities and (touch wood) nobody has tried to steal anything off her yet!

well.. thats nice to know since ill be carrying a bit of camera equipment on motocamping trips. nice to know that i might even be able to bring a laptop. cant see the bad in that... plus if it locks and its really safe.. pretty sweet... now if winter would just get over...

At 75mph I can barely feel the E52 and it packs a ton! I go food shopping with it regularly and am always amazed how much more I can fit int it than cramming into my back pack. It will be enough for a long weekend. As for high highway speeds, side cases are probably better for that. I use my top case for city commuting (Boston).

Not sure that I agree about the side cases - while I haven't tried them on the FZ, when I've ridden other bikes that have them they start to get noticeable at roughly the same speeds. I barely notice my top case at any (remotely reasonably) speed.

I don;t have one, but every time i hear guys talking they complain that the stuff bumps around inside theirs.

Solutions usually involve some kind of packing around the sides or straps to tie stuff down.

i looked into the givi bags that are supposed to fit on the inside.. if i see them on ebay for under $40 i'll probably pick one up just for that problem

IMO a hard mounted trunk can go 100 mph easy.

1st off, your body is going to break most of the wind before it impacts the trunk.

2nd, I have the Cortech soft luggage set, with the sidebags and trunk, and I do 70 to 80 mph with no issues at all. I'm confident that I could do 100 mph for extended time with no problem, though the mfg recommends a limit of around 80 mph.

So, I say don't worry about the speed, just make sure you mount it properly and torque your bolts to spec.

I have an EMGO hard trunk on my xs1100, and it is pretty secure. When I mounted it I use flush mounting nut so when I bolted the mounting plate to the carrier crossmember you can not put a wrench on it. You can only unscrew from inside the trunk.

So your Givi should be pretty secure, just make sure no one sees you have a $1,000 worth of electronics in it when you hit the bars.

i currently have the whole yamaha soft sport luggege.. it works great and i have had mine up to probably 80-90 for extended time no problem.. i agree with the mounting it properly.. might just do a write up when i get my new case
