Striking a pose with its stylish, new full fairing, the 2009 FZ6R is ready to be your do-everything commuter, sport-touring, trackday machine.

Looks great....but....read the specs....41mm forks???? a fully non-adjustable suspension, again, and the old style brakes. "Our" bike is much better and a better value. The new one looks to compete against the Ninja 650. It's porky too, 467 vs 410.

Looks nice but I'll pass.

Not quite what i expected....thought they would sharpen it up a bit more....lets hope the naked version is a bit more exciting, but once again low spec running gear. Thought that they might try and go down a similar road to Triumph, and their very sharp focussed Street Triple.

Oh well, at least i now feel comfortable with all the time & money i have spent modding my FZ6 to handle, stop & go, like a Sportsbike, with the comfort & versatility of the FZ6 seating position for both rider & passenger.

:Flash:

I am in love...looks great...weight is not that different - they are quoting wet weight. Ours is 459 lbs wet vs 467. Engine sounds like was totally reworked for better low/midrange.
I see a direct competitor to the GSX650F and the Ninja 650
I see they are also keeping the FZ6. The new Yamaha is called XJ6 Diversion in Europe.

so it looks like there will be 2 FZ6's then huh? the 09 FZ6 and FZ6R. Will both be available in the US here? i prefer the more naked look to be honest. hey, it also went up almost 300 bucks. :(

160/60 rear,
steel frame,
non adjustable suspension,
less fuel capacity,
more weight
Buell looking exhaust = boo

analog tach = yea

Full fairing = Eh?

Looks like more of a targeted "beginner bike" - more sportbike looks, lower spec suspension and brakes (although not so different from my 04), lower price, lower seat, etc. I'm sure it has a place in the line and it will sell but a little curious why they didn't go for a different designation - maybe overseas FZ6 carries a lot more rep than here.

Some better pictures. They also writes that its 78HK engine, 59,7 Nm at 8500rpm.

Good looking bike indeed but exhaust they could have done better..

man, europe always gets the better choices. i really dig how the fairing is just a little bigger, but not too big. great looking bike. plus more colors!

It looks really sweet but I wasn't too impressed with the specs...

I think that i could probably kill myself with 80 HP just about as easily as i can with my 98HP. Also a tube frame is not that out of date, Ducati is using them and have been considered the premier in sport bikes for years. the adjustable seat and handlebars will attract lots of beginner riders as well as riders that can't seem to get that "Just right" fit of the bike. the tire size is the same as the SV650, so i am not sure i see where the problem is. I like the bike and would love to test ride one.

I am also curious about the torque of this bike, the SV650 only makes about 70HP but can eat the FZ alive off the line due to the torque, maybe the 80HP was a tradeoff for low wnd grunt that honestly our bikes are missing...

Rob, I totally agree with you. Same with the GSX650F. Even though it has 12 less hp then the FZ6, it has a lot more usable torque down low and mid range where most people spend the majority of the riding time. i would be interested to see a comparison between the GSX650F, Ninja 650 and FZ6R.

hey everyone!

i found this release to be quite interesting. i completely agree that this bike's targets are the ninja 650 and gsxf 650. i believe they are cutting costs on performance and offering a lower seat height for entry level riders that are more worried about style and ease of use. they are continuing to offer our fz6 also. i almost think they are trying to see what the public is more interested in: performance or looks. think about it: the fz6r has a full fairing and currently trendy under engine exhaust. will fit in better with other riders with r6's and the like looks wise. to get that you have to give up the 180 rear tire, the aluminum frame, about 2000 rpm on top. you do gain the visually appealing two piece seat though! lol this bike on paper though seems to have enough performance to beat the competition. they are just using this to see what direction they should go in with r&d money. this class of bike has seen a huge jump in sales.i work at a dealer and we move so many zzr's, + 650r's. the fz6 not as much because it doesnt have the full fairings. usually a complaint with new riders, the designated market for these bikes. this all just opinion and throwing some ideas out there. what do you guys think?
