Zero Electric Motorcycle Now Available

I hope not! That may be the lamest thing I have ever seen in my life. Global warming is a sham, record lows are reported year round and yet this is what it produces... a 60 mph bike. Sorry if I made anyone cry!
 
Great for commuting, I have a 20mile round trip. But for fun forget it, a 60 mile range, here with all the hills I would expect 40mile range so wouldn't push it past going 30mile without having recharge facilities!

So great if you can afford to buy it for its very limited use.

I,ll remind you of that remark when the petrol runs dry and battery technology has increased and I,m riding and your walking .

They are not all slow and have low ranges.Google electric motorcycles and look for yourself.

and you will be recharging such a bike with power generated by what? it won't be a gas or oil fired power station then? It's all well and good running on batteries, but can you imagine waiting 8 hours for your batteries to charge? The increased use of electricity by eceryone who wants an electric car/bike will require more electricity to be generated, more power stations that use what fuel?, probably a new infrstructure to carry the increased demand.

I'll watch from the sidelines and continue to use petrol while I wait..... :thumbup:

Tasmania's,for example,power is supplied by Hydro power.They generate more power than they can use.When I lived there I could charge my mobile phone in less than an hour ............not a gas powered or oil fired power station in sight.
 
Definitely limited use in its current form, but you gotta start somewhere. Model T is boring as f*** compared to almost any vehicle made new today.

Not taking the price of entry into consideration, it's a decent short-trip commuter already, and hopefully will only get better with time. Batteries will improve, charging will be easier, and hopefully the fun factor will grow.

I will always love gas-engined vehicles and am glad they aren't going anywhere anytime soon, but it would be awesome to have this technology develop into a viable alternative. I WISH the FZ had a torque curve as flat as an electric motor. ;)
 
I've just been looking at the number of cars in the UK, around 33 million, odd for a nation of 60 million people, but true. If we all went onto electric cars/bikes I just wonder how well the power stations and the national grid would cope with a few million people plugging their cars in overnight to be able to use them the next day.

Only way I can see that happening is by building a hell of a lot more nuclear power stations and carry out a massive upgrade to the network, most countries would be in the same position. Even siting massive solar power panels in the Sahara to supply Europe would still mean a massive upgrade to the network.

So at this time I won't hold my breath for electric cars or motorcycles.
 
well.. rememebr that it wont be just electric cars comming.. theres all sorts of technology out there to make this work and work well.. look up wireless power transfer (same technology used in charging elec tooth brush's) and understand that when we get to this point, it wont take 8-10 hours to charge the battery.. think more like 1-2 hours... however: fast charging=more voltage=more chance to accidently fry yourself..
 
I'd have to put playing cards in the spokes - I'd miss the sound. I'd be concerned cagers wouldn't hear or see me.

Without oil/gas how will you generate the electricity required? Once oil and gas goes the use of coal will grow, so that will use more of the coal reserves to generate power for all the new electric cars. On top of that, once it becomes ecconomical, there will be a rush to derive oil from coal as the Germans did in the 1940's, so even more coal reserves used.

Unless people are going to accept the use of nuclear power then the electric cars/motorbikes will be dead before they even kick off in a big way.

We could use electricity for smaller vehicles like bikes and for the larger vehicles ,like cars , there are other options like Hydrogen Fuel cells.The point is oil is a finite resource ,we may not see the end of it but our kids will and something needs to be done now IMHO.

It still takes electricity to produce the hydrogen. I don't disagree that electric has to be the way to go, it's just that the appearence to most folks is that it's a clean and easy answer, when that's far from the truth. At the end of the day the electricity has to be generated one way or another and right now coal, oil or natural gas appear to be the winners in that, not very environmentally friendly at all.

While people may want electric vehicles so they can be 'green', very few of them want nuclear power stations near them, they'd much sooner they were built next to someone else. How else will the required amount of electricity be generated?

Until Joe Public faces reality then the world will continue as it is, getting more expensive as resources become scarce. The countries that are importing resources now, while not exploiting thier own - keeping it in reserve, will be the ones who survive the longest. Why do you think China is buying everything it can?

I agree,the way electricity is produced in most places is far from green.Hydro ,where possible, is the best answer .But in places such as South Australia ,which has very little in the way of usable water,must embrace nuclear power sometime in the future.

There are other alternatives such as wind,solar and wave generated power but the technology is still a little lacking I think.
 
I'm going to try and test ride one in London. I'll write a review if I get a ride. It would be perfect for my daily 24 mile (round trip) commute every day.
